What are those notches on the hull for on the ship?

That's so those shipmates can hang nets on to paint the ship(side cleaners) or any other work. I've not seen that being done for some time. a real long time.

hey.. what cha saying there big guy? I've mopped floors and cleaned the head before. Never painted the ship though. Now that's a difficult job especially when it's hot!

Same here shipmate. been there done that..nothing wrong with that. the first 100 days I was aboard JFK I was a mess cook. I worked cargo crew.

My point directed at those persons that maybe lurking here thinking of joining the USN is that not all jobs are spectacular. Some are just jobs that have to be done! And when you are a newbie abroad ship expect the mundane and routine...but that will change in time Padawan..that will change....
