There are some terrific videos from the F-35 demo team that showed up a few days ago, with views from inside the cockpit while doing maneuvers like the Dojo drift (tactical pitch - or is it the sales pitch?):

"Dojo", as I alluded to earlier Dojo is an awesome showman, relating back to our boy "Max Moga", the first F-22 Demo Driver!

Japan's military says pilot disorientation likely cause of F-35 crash in April

Which is exactly what I said, flying at night, in a high performance fighter is very, very dangerous, look at Capt Haney in Alaska, doesn't take much to "loose spatial orientation", at night, over water, add any kind of maneuvering, its simply "classic".....

I don't mean to be cynical, but I hope it wasn't a classic cover-up to blame the deceased pilot

He was supposedly at high altitude when having troubles and aborted the mission though.

I will add that all fighters need an "OH SHIT" button that will recover the aircraft....in such an event... there's a smoking black hole outside of Springfield, Central Obamastan where a lad from the then 183rd ANG put a "lawn dart' in the ground... less than a minute after he left the runway, on a deployment to Europe!

The Russians have it in the Sukhoi, the F-18 has it, I don't know what the problem is...

Yes Sir! and that gives you just enough time from 35,000 ft to make a sonic boom! and say Oh Shiiiiiit before you hit the water at 35,000 fpm descent rate! mark my words, actually we now read he was at 15,500 ft.

And he reportedly called "kills" on two of his flight, so lots of hard maneuvering at what was actually 31,000 ft.....

your inner ear takes approximately 2-5 mins to return to equilibrium from that type of activity, in the dark...

the helmet is def different from "steam gauges", I think it could even exacerbate the effects of spatial disorientation...
