I heard of it ... Aug 17, 2016
I believe Gen III helmets were still giving the green glow problem as of last year. The planned fix was to use an OLED display but I have not seen any recent update on timing of its roll out which supposedly was this year. As such, I don't know whether the OLED display actually fixed the problem.

just LOL here as during my like four years on the SDF I don't recall anyone fired from the Pentagon for his/her program over budget or missing a deadline, and of course I heard of multiple major programs which have swollen by billions / blown deadlines by years LOL what then happens is "eventually ultimately undoubtedly will" line is pulled

... Are you aware of anyone that got fired from the LCS, Zumwalt or Ford program due to performance issues?

... “In our own analysis we're seeing a consistent ratio more like 24:0 – we're not losing aircraft at all in our scenarios, and we set the conditions for other legacy fighters to be successful where we can.”

Contracts for March 20, 2019
NAVY

The Boeing Co., St. Louis, Missouri, is awarded a ceiling priced $4,040,458,297 modification to convert a previously awarded advanced acquisition contract (N00019-18-C-1046) to a fixed-price-incentive-firm-target multi-year contract. The target price for this multi-year contract is $4,001,410,000. This modification provides for the full-rate production and delivery of 78 F/A-18 aircraft, specifically ...

There is no dispute that the F-35 program initially was badly managed. I believe General Bogdan basically turned it around and got the program back on track. Yes the program overspent against initial estimates and came in behind schedule but these program issues don't change the fact that the F-35 is an amazing product at $80 million plus. It is the best value in town. It is a huge and complex program. It is easy to criticise from the outside looking in but I have never managed such a huge program and would not be in a position to objectively judge.

... I checked myself what I found in Internet ... well it doesn't seem to make sense but:

this one is particularly funny: "... to provide additional funding for affordability-based cost reduction initiatives in support of low-rate initial production Lot 9 F-35 ..." $137834819

LOL I skipped several contracts below $100m but still:
698032385+60000000+237765479+431322997+430878490+120555991+5370955495+181765203+743169377+137834819 = 8,412,280,236
(of course they said 'a $6.1 billion deal'

)
8412280236/57 is almost 148m ... for one of Lot 9 without an engine and so called LOT 9 AIRFRAME UPGRADE AND RETROFIT CONTRACTS
... apparently also documented in the mind-boggling link

?

you don't think they may cure the cost that way, do you?

EDIT there's one thing, but I'll put it into a separate post:

I've noticed how you Brumby are critical about the Ford program, so I'm curious why you AT THE SAME TIME laud the F-35 program

for me the F-35 is kinda Bill Clinton's heritage, LOL!
