One simple thing too the 71 was designed with out computers and didn' take 20,some odd years to deploy granted the 35 is more complex but come on this is Lockmart milking a project for all of its worth and then some
I was also built in far smaller numbers 32 SR71 with another 15 A12. for a total of 47, So no comparison for delivery scheduled.

Air Force Brat of that most would agree the 22 was stopped way to soon and the price to restart is way too high somewhere around 200 million per bird as what Iv read probably one of the reasons there is talk of a 6th gen bird surfacing even before the 35 is fully developed and deployed if the 35 8s such a great be all and end all bird such talk would not be occurrig

Actually DT folks have been talking about the 6th Gen since the 5 Gen rolled out,,, but there are really NO aircraft that quantify the same revolutionary leap in performance the F-22 brought, and the F-35 is a 9/10s of an F-22.. It's are great deal better than its predecessors, and it will go forward, to proclaim it a failure only illustrates a lack of comprehension of those attributes that make the F-35 so successful..

So the F-35 will continue to be "ramped up", as it is a critical piece of our current and future defense, and people will continue to talk about a 6th Gen, so ask them what in fact will quantify a 6th Generation aircraft, and that my friend will not likely net you any cogent answers, nobody seems able to define even what the target might be
LOL, you detractor

"Birds of a Feather, Flock together!", you two, if it were up to you birds, we would be bringing back the Wright Flyer with a Colt 45....on your hip,,, SAD Gents! almost as bad as the SCS thread,, NO, actually nothing could be that bad....

I wear that detractors badge with honor for I am in No way a fan of the F35 never have been and never will be

as for the F-35, I'm just a watcher; now dug out

the question remains (and soon may be gone, or asked by many, that's why I'll pose it for the SDF record :) now) if those tremendous resources had been better used on other aircraft than F-35

EDIT what I mean by #2:
kinda abstract economics rule says one should look at what would've been achieved by alternative project(s) in comparison to the one actually procured ... for example if you had invested one mil into something, you should then compare your gain, of for example 100 Grand, to what you would've earned if you had invested into something else, and evaluate the actual investment based on this: had it been realistically possible to gain 200 Grand by investing that one mil differently, your 100 Grand surplus would be a failure LOL!

here though:
same goes for the great game changer LCS
I've been pounding LCSs for years, LOL they're going to order some more, now noticed

Ok FYI per USNI news, the Washington Times, and defense news the Chinese have hacked a top secret submarine supersonic missile due to be introduced in the 2020s so it only makes sense they sure could do some damage to all the tech heavy systems ie.F35 among others
