I'm speechless now ... I don't think I've ever seen anything as hyped as this:
Israel 'Ready' to Operate F-35s Without Ever Actually Flying Them
Israel’s scheduled Dec. 12 receipt of its first pair of F-35I Adir (Awesome) fighters caps nearly a decade of planning, and that’s all before a single Israel Air Force pilot has actually taken to the skies in its new stealth weapon.

Israeli pilots have been training at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona for more than a year, but unlike F-35 compatriots from the US, Norway, Australia and other nations who are actually flying the fifth-generation fighter, Israel has elected to limit pilot training to course work and the high-fidelity simulator built by prime contractor Lockheed Martin.

“We haven’t yet flown on the plane. That was our choice,” a general officer on the Israel Air Force (IAF) headquarters staff told Defense News.

“Decades ago, when we prepared for our first F-15s and F-16s, we needed to fly in the aircraft. But today, the situation is different for two key reasons: Firstly, the simulators are so reliable and secondly, it’s a single-seater. So it doesn’t matter if we fly here or there, because there’s no instructor up there with you in the cockpit,” the senior officer said.

He added, “We’ve gone through extensive simulator training and we’ve received all the information we needed through wonderful cooperation. … From our point of view, once they land here on 12 December, we’re ready to fly.”

Israel will take delivery of its first Adir fighters once two US Air Force pilots touch down at the Israel Air Force (IAF) Nevatim Base in the Negev desert in Dec. 12 ceremonies. One of the American F-35 acceptance pilots, Maj. Elijah “Animal” Supper, billed next week’s event as “historic.”

released Thursday by the Israeli military, Supper congratulated the state of Israel for its imminent receipt of the fifth-generation fighter. “It’s a historic moment for you, the world, and specifically the region receiving this jet,” he said.

Col. Asaf, the deputy commander of the F-35I’s designated home base at Nevatim, told reporters here that work to stand up the new Adir Squadron started about 18 months ago. The officer, whose surname was withheld for security reasons, said the sprawling base – one of three built after the 1979 peace treaty with Egypt – would house five operational squadrons, including the new 140th Squadron of new F-35Is.

In addition to simulator-based pilot and aircrew training at Luke, ground crews have been training at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and elsewhere in the US on maintaining and supporting the service’s newest acquisition, he said. At home, he noted that the IAF has completed construction of new facilities and underground hangars to accommodate the new fleet.

Huh? and I would have argued with you insisting that they had been flying birds out of the "pool"? you gotta wonder what kind of mind set would see them opting not to have a little "stick time", especially since the US taxpayer is paying the bill anyway???

I would add however, that the simulator is outstanding??? it is, but that is just too strange. Maybe they just didn't want their birds added to the pool????

from the link in your post:
"Israel’s first cadre of F-35 pilots are headed next month to the United States to begin simulator and ground-based training on the new stealth fighter ...
By the middle of next year, 12 IAF pilots will have passed through the approximately 100-day US Air Force training program, which prepares them for actual flight training in Israel on Israeli aircraft."

so now I can perhaps understand more the conjecture I've read some time ago, which was something like this:
Israel gets (gets, doesn't pay, of course) F-35s, but leaves them in storage; this way
  • Pentagon is satisfied as it can claim tremendous international success now, and
  • Israel's enemies are discouraged (what if F-35 worked as advertised?!), and
  • Israel is satisfied as the above came at no cost, plus
  • LockMart is satisfied: gets the money now (from the State Department account but who cares)
LOL!
anyway, they're on the way:

I don't know what the logic is/was, but I have no doubt the F-35 simulator is beyond outstanding, the most sophisticated aircraft simulator ever built, "my words, but don't doubt me", Lockmart has been building outstanding flight simulators forever..... I crashed a C-130 simulator at nine years old, believe me, it was the real deal!

This relives the US of some of the responsibility for what Israel does later with their F-35s, remember OBAMA insulted Bibi Netanyahu!, so they DO NOT get along, Trump will be a great friend to Israel. As pointed out, there are NO two seat F-35s or F-22s, so you basically go out and fly two aircraft, the instructor talks you through your mission from the other aircraft, and they would get a bill for this no doubt?

So the negotiated price includes delivery, two USAF pilots will fly the F-35As to Israel to a "hero's welcome", likely give them some cockpit checks, maybe even give the Israeli's a little flight instruction???

See this yellow button, that is the starter??? LOL you get my point, the Israeli's will be fine, they are very much in tune and equal to their US counterparts. I feel competent to go out and fly an F-35 with about 10 hours in simulator, and I would, even though I have never flown anything heavier than a Mitsubishi Turbo-Prop?? (The F-35 is a very easy aircraft to fly), the FCS helps you along every step of the way.

I think i can also fly the f 35 with minimal sim training as well. not combat mind you but just a gander around the neighborhood.
The bravo would be a different story. i would probably crash that sucker in no time.

I'm sure you could Kwai, both of us would love to fly the A and the C, let those Gyreenes play around with that fool thang B model! but we absolutely do have to get together. If you check out my Facebook, my little brother took a few pictures of me flying our old 172 in formation with him!

Let me seriously state the B model will revolutionize Marine Corp power projection, and as Master Jeff and others have stated, add a 1/2 dozen carrier strike groups to the mix as needed. I am looking forward to the B's being forward deployed to Japan in the very near future, those Marines realize that the BRAVO is the bird that will change the balance of power in the very near term.

While I cussed and discussed the B, at this date, it is the MOST IMPORTANT aircraft in the US inventory! Trust me on this, and I was a naysayer, but I AM a TRUE Believer NOW!

Jura, my buddy Michael Gilmore is out there whining and crying some more on the F-35, I saw it in the AFM daily report, thought I would give you a heads up so that you can post it here, I think he's going to be "out of a job" very shortly, for real, so this is kind of his "parting shot" at LockMart and the the US military!
