F-35 Joint Strike Fighter News, Videos and pics Thread

The Israelis have quiet a good number of F-15 & F-16 in their inventory, starting with the A-models of each type. I exspect that they'll need to start replacing them starting in about 5 to 7 years maybe. Right now to me it looks like the IDF will go with a single fighter type force in the future. I can't see any other jet being on their agenda right now. So medium term already, I believe the F-35 # for the Israelis will go way beyond 50.

to Arabian Gulf region nations on the same day Israel confirmed it would buy 14 additional F-35s.

In a deal worth about $3 billion, Israel said it would buy 14 additional fifth generation fighters built by Lockheed Martin Corp., which would bring the Israeli fleet to 33. The Israeli Defense Ministry bought 19 F-35s in 2010.

The U.S. is leading the development of the F-35, but allies across the globe to include the U.K., Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Norway and Turkey have also financed the world’s most expensive weapons program. U.S. generals have emphasized the international support of the program throughout its history.

Frank Kendall, U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics, told a crowd of reporters Sunday at the IDEX defense conference in Abu Dhabi that he didn’t expect any “near-term” F-35 sales to Gulf states such as Qatar or the United Arab Emirates, according to reports.

He explained that the current fleet of fourth generation fighters such as the Block 60

from Dassault Aviation. Developed in the 1970s and 80s, the French built the fighter to be comparable to the American F-16.

Kendall’s comments come as Gulf region jets are flying missions with the U.S. and other coalition aircraft against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh. The coalition includes Egypt and the UAE.

It means there is only ONE airplane that our F-22 jockeys need to fear meeting in a dark alley some night----The "F-35"! I'm telling you, the bad guys will lose sleep over this one!

The US and Israel have a deal where the US will start negotiations for the sale of the F-35 to the Middle East 5 years after the Israelis get their jets in order to maintain a qualitative lead over the Arabs.

Bar Brother, if you are going to make a statement like that, please include a link to some documentation/credible source that verifies it.

Thanks.

I didn't find the exact source because it is very old news, but I found a related article.

I'm actually surprised you didn't know this Jeff, about the US making policies to keep the Israelis ahead of the Arabs in military technology, to the point where US taxpayers are paying for the Israeli F-35s.

But some are trying their best to change that.

The U.S. commitment to maintain Israel's qualitative military edge (QME) -- that is, the technological, tactical, and other advantages that allow it to deter numerically superior adversaries -- is a longstanding tradition that every president since Lyndon Johnson has reiterated. Today, however, Israel's relations with Arab countries are more complicated, and some moderate Arab states have even become strategically aligned with Israel due to Iran's growing regional ambitions and nuclear activities.

Key lawmakers say they're open to re-examining a decades-old arms policy that guarantees Israel a technological advantage over its neighbors now that they're all facing the same threat.

Okay...so you do not have one.

Please, in the future before making such a claim, do some research and provide a link/source...or make it plain that it is not a "deal"...that it is only conjecture.

How about actually being patient about it before I have to explain the policies of your own country? If I don't have a source I would tell you directly.

I think Jeff was NOT trying to rush you or anything. He is just saying to provide a source for any claims or opinions that ANYONE makes. You don't have to respond to any question immediately, just take your time.

I will todays 195 F-22 Raptors and 500 Super Hornets in US Defence.
Nobody cares about F-35 in US homeland.
It's 695 fighters in US Military I will.
Maybe 300 for Navy in US Military.

Edit. F-35 is no best fighters even the are finest planes in world with PAK-50.
