F-22 Raptor Thread

It is claimed that the radar emission of the APG-77 is undetectable. If true, that would explain why the F-22 is slow in adopting IRST. Just wondering whether you guy/gals have come across this claim before. My source : Page 181 Military Avionics Systems by Ian Moir and Allan Seabridge

It picked my interest because I also came across a recent report which may indirectly corroborate this claim. There is an Australian parlimentary enquiry back in 2012 when the Air Marshall in his testimony was explaining how the F-15D got jumped on numerous occasions by F-22's during red flag. In my mind for this to happen, it would mean that the F-22 was emitting but the F-15 wasn't picking up the emission. Relevant transcripts produced below :

The F-22 is a very stealthy aeroplane, the F-35 is enough warmer that IRST will possibly be more effective than against the F-22. The F-22 is still at the top of the heap, the F-35, and all the other wanna-bees are well below the threshold of the Alien Bird! It is and will likely remain the best, because of the tremendous amount of money and engineering invested, no one else has the technology, and no one else has the money to go one on one with the Raptor.

As good as the F-35 is, and it is very high tech, and holds many advantages electronically, the F-22 is a world away better? and the only bird able to plug that "Roswell Connection" into real life! The reason the Brat is still loyal to the "best of the best!

That's without the truly "classified" stuff being revealed, and there is lots of that, but hey, I hope the competition doesn't believe me, let em find out when they under-estimate the Raptor. It will be a lesson they won't soon forget, and it will likely discourage further stooopidity.

that's stunning view:

Avionics could be updated; shortcomings with the airframe are harder to mend.

What shortcomings Bub??? I don't recall to many?? and you have to remember production in the early days was almost by hand, and many of the parts were manufactured for specific aircraft. I do know the F-35 has "much tighter" tolerances, and a much more precise fit.

If you think about it, the Raptor was at about the same place the F-35 is now??? when production was halted. Primarily to assure that the F-35 ThunderHogge II was "inoculated" against a bunch of idiots halting production of the F-35 saying, "we don't need two 5th gen aircraft". This was done so that we might keep our word to our partners, that my boy is the reality of politics? The Raptor was into the "lean" stage of production, and there is a LOT of meat on the bone as far as money to be made on the F-35, partners included, there are a lot of jobs and money on the line, that's why there has been no liberal call for halting the F-35.

So yes, I believe the F-22 is necessary, and it would be a very wise decision to restart production and update the avionics as necessary to facilitate getting this very outstanding aircraft back up and running as a back-stop to the sixth gen, which is on a very slow development path?

Now will this happen?? not unless we get a Commander in Chief who understands the very dangerous world we are living in now?

The F-22 is simply a superior airframe, twin engine, much more powerful and much more agile by design, able to supercruise quietly into theatre, hit the target, and be gone before anyone knows what has hit them. It has a much more robust airframe, OVT, etc, etc.

Now the naysayers will point out that many of the parts, engines, avionics, etc are no longer in production???

I didn't say it would be easy or cheap, just smart!
