    Three years for that isn’t that bad.
    Besides does Raptor actually need Link 16? Really no. It already can listen for Link 16 messaging. What this aims for is transmit on Link 16 so that F22 can “quarterback” less advanced allied aircraft. However thing people forget about the Quarterback is he is often tackled. Link 16 is a known radio broadcast system one that peer level foes would be listening for. Adding the ability to broadcast is fine for permissive airspace but in non permissible it means that the aircraft is flagging itself. That’s why F22 was built with a unique datalink. The datalink I feel should be pushed for Raptor’s future isn’t Link 16. It’s MADL.

    This is accurate however, to whom is the F22 data more important? F22 or F16, F15, A10?
    The answer is the older platform.
    F22 as a penetration platform wouldn’t use broadcast on Link 16 as it would give away its presence.
    F16, F15, A10, B52, B1B and E3 all use Link 16 as there main datalink system.
    F22 can receive Link 16 data as it stands today. this is logical.
    So they could receive calls for help or AWACS data. Transmissions however risk exposure of the VLO platform.

    Talon HATE will allow F15 to talk on F22’s Datalink. This makes sense as F22 has been folded into F15 Squadrons.
    But other legacy assets cannot.

    Link 16 transmission was intentionally not installed as a means of Emissions control. Like not installing a Active Sonar on a Attack submarine. Now they are reversing this. It takes a little while to figure out how and then get the funding to do it across the fleet. It’s not like there was a button they just didn’t install. Yet again to whom is this more critical? Not Raptor but other older platforms.

    F35 and F22 as the two fifth Generation fighters for the US and as Allies <as they continue to procure them.> They are more likely to work directly together than any combination of Fifth and Fourth generation platforms save F22 and F15. As such Getting Raptors to talk to Lightning IIs and visa versa across a secure datalink should be more critical.
    Although once they retrofit Raptor with transmit mode on Link 16 will be able to talk with lightning across that mode. It potentially exposes both platforms. Basically they are VLO until they start talking. Once that transmit button is hit.

    The main aim of Fifth gen it to try and edge up in denied airspace. Transmissions in that airspace radio, TV and even Link 16 is exactly what Passive sensors are listening for. You might recall that report of a German firm who claimed to have tracked F35s. Those F35 were transmitting in the open and likely in Link 16. That gives away there presence. Passive sensors can’t aim weapons but they can tell IADS “Hay point the radars over there I can hear Link 16 broadcasts.”

    A F-22 that was damaged in 2012 through a belly landing has been returned to service after a $35 million repair bill and 7 years of repair and engineering effort.

    The aircraft undertook its first post-rebuild functional check flight at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, on October 11, 2019.

    Awesome, last years Commander was "Loco Lopez", he put on quite a show, I saw him fly twice, so looking forward to Maj Gunderson's Demo Team flights this year.....

    Actually every body that flies the Raptor has to be "Superman!", its a real "rocket sled"!
