So much behind China watching is policized to squeeze the US Congress for military spending. And fans who attach their ego to the Chinese military happily believe these lies.

You actually have a point ... until China launched its first successful manned spaceflight, Shenzhou 5 . Then all those speculations on technical achievements published in Chinese press become at least possible, if not credible ... :coffee:

Cannons are kept on fighter planes as far as I am aware as a secondary weapons system. Although unlikely with the latest missile technologies, cannons are mostly in place in case the missile systems fail to launch or if the last missile(s) fail to get a target (or whatever problem crops up). Generaly, cannons on a modern jet are generaly speaking a 'just in case/last ditch' weapons system, but I imagine come in handy for raking assaults on buildings and other ground targets, though this is probably tricky to do. Most USAF fighter planes that use missles-only have never been to relatively efective, such as the McDonnel-Douglas Demon. The F-4 Phantom was also originaly a missile only fighter before pods were jerry-rigged to the plane that held 12.7MM cannons, before they became standard.

I agree that the F-22 Raptor is definately the biggest scare the PLAAF has, but it is not unresonable to assume that, as someone said earlier, that they do have a skunk-works project. To assume that any nation, especialy developed ones such as China, do not have technological capability is dangerous. Not to say that China has the technology yet, but it will, and likely it wont be too far off.

I know how a J-7 can kill an F-22. :D

Blow it up before it ever takes off!

Perhaps that is a bit far-fetched, but say the fabled US-China War happens. Let's also pretend that there are quite a few f-22s on Guam. Chinese subs fire cruise missles at the base in conjunction with a ballistic missle attack, and the F-22s are wiped out. :coffee:

I'm just putting this in here to show there's more to a disscussion than simply the aircraft's capabilities. Anything can happen in war, because everything is interconnected.

That is a legitimate way to possibly eliminate F-22s from the picture if you have the means to reach those bases.

But someday someone is going to find a way to knock down an F-22 either through a yet to be developed technology or finding a weakness, like a flaw hidden by the Pentagon, that can be exploited. My bet is it'll happen sooner than later. You know Europeans, Russians, and the Chinese are devoting a lot of research to defeating the F-22.

There's economic incentive to develop technology to counter the F-22 as well. The French is having problem selling their Rafale fighter in the export market because it lacks the AESA radar. More and more customers are demanding that prospective fighter sales include AESA radars. So the French is changing priorty and spend more funds in research and development of an indigenous AESA radar for the export market.:coffee:

And so the arms race begins. Who suffers? Poor people who could've been helped by the social programs that didn't get funded. And such is the sad truth world that we live in.

By the way, this thread is little more than a glorified pissing contest.

==Aye. A slave owner who owns 200 slaves believes that the other slave owner who only owns 100 slaves is threatening his dominence over the slave market, so he wants to knock the other slave owner out of business. I don't see why should all the slaves get so excited about this.

Behold them seated in their glory
The kings of mine and rail and soil!
What have you read in all their story,
But how they plundered toil?
Fruits of the workers still are buried
In the strong coffers of a few;
In working for their restitution
The men will only ask their due.

You're missing the important point the technological gap is getting smaller between the superpower and all the other powers.

Now, let us begin our discussion. The F-22 is the biggest threat to the PLAAF and in general, the Chinese military. Is there anything that the PLAAF can do to counter this plane (assuming that Congress decides to allow the production of several squadrons of it)? I am trying to find an article in which I read that a squadron of F-15's (probably the E versions) are trying to "defeat" the F-22. So far, they have had no luck.
F-22 shares the same weakness as every other non-VTOL aircraft - they need a runway. If the airbase is destroyed, they can't fly. Airbases don't necessarily have to be destroyed by aircraft. They can be destroyed by cruise or ballistic missiles.

I doubt the USN would buy Flankers, I dont think Russia would sell them to us.
The US already has Flankers, but just like 1 or 2 I think. Acquired for testing purposes

Are you sure this article is reliable? It said an su-27 could be bought for $8 million dollars a piece, quite unbelievable. The fc-1 is 15 million. The U.s Should buy and liscence produce flankers? What kind of crap is that? Who wrote that article anyways?
