Experiment ship 892 finally in service

We will have to depend on the internet poster looking for notoriety to take pictures and post them in the mainland forums. This has happened a lot in the past and we can hope to do so again. Even the experimental ships in the past has not avoided this.

well, we got another test ship in 893. It's quite amazing to me that they need 3 ships to test out new sensors and weapon systems, but they do. That does indicate the rapid pace of PLAN development.

They look like capable and spacious platforms for testing a vast array of new our modified equipment!

it could be for the next-generation systems for new frigates and destroyers, maybe systems for Type 054B and Type 052D all need testing as they are approaching end cycle for current batches, the ship actually looks quite nice

But since the thread has been revived, this may a good place to add that 891 and 892 are based at Huludao (40 42 34 N 120 59 48 E), which is the Navy Test Centre (海军试验基地).

I think there is 4 elements of warfare China lacks in

One, is amphibious assault, which has been corrected to some extent by 3 x Type 071 LPD but China is still far off
Two, replenishment at sea and this has been addressed by the 2 x new Type 903A replenishment tankers but again this is not enough especially if the 903A cant replenish a aircraft carrier
Three, air-to-air refuelling which has not found a true solution apart from H-6
and four airborne transport which China lacks,

number 3 and 4 will be solved when Y-20 enters service, and looking at the cancelled IL-76 and IL-78 order the Y-20 production might even exceed 100 units but really until then 3 and 4 really need attention, funny thing is, these 4 elements have been recognised way back as early as year 2000, and still there is still no definitive solution
