Harbin college students, selling intelligence to foreign agents profit more than 200,000, has been arrested

2014-08-06 14:57:05 Xinhua News Agency

@ China Exclusive: [ Harbin, a college student out to overseas sales intelligence been arrested ] can not stop the temptation of money, in less than two years, aerospace professional Harbin University graduate often a certain person for foreign intelligence gathering and internal data more than 50 times, to accept the "funds" more than 20 million. August 5, often certain to be the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Procuratorate approved the arrest of Reclamation District Branch. The case reflects the foreign intelligence agencies "black hand" has been extended to college students.

According to Voice of China "Global Chinese Radio Network" reported on August 4, a Canadian citizen Kevin and Julia high suspicion of stealing my secret national military and defense research activities are reviewed Dandong City, Liaoning Province, the National Security Agency in accordance with law. Currently, the case is pending.

Kevin and Julia are a couple from Vancouver, Canada, since 1984 living in China, the couple had worked as a teacher in southern China, in western China opened to help orphans in kindergarten. In 2008 they moved the family to close the DPRK Dandong, China, where he opened a cafe, in addition to providing "best local coffee", but also for visitors wishing to enter the Korean organization excursions. Open the windows of the cafe situation can be observed on the Yalu River bridge between China and the DPRK truck, you can make a strong judgment on the delicate China-DPRK relations.

Foreign espionage against our country has not stopped, with the development of China's economic and military aspects of national defense, national espionage also become more frequent in China, selling state secrets people have troops, officials, academics and other different identities:

Central Government Liaison Office in Hong Kong Secretary-General Cai Xiaohong, British spies lurking in our country for over a decade. 2003, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court to the crime of leaking state secrets abroad illegally sentenced to fifteen years in prison Cai Xiaohong; General Political Department of the embassy Colonel Jane Wang, who according to Japanese requirements, timing open the windows to let the Japanese come in remote detection equipment , also ambassadors, military attache at the bugging, 2006, on suspicion of the crime of military secrets indicted; 2007, Chinese-American scientist Xue because employers involved in the sale of China to the American oil industry, was sentenced to eight years of commercial databases; most senior central China One think tank, the CASS academician Lu Jianhua South Korea Taiwan for five US-Russian intelligence work, the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court of leaking state secrets and sentenced to death Lu Jianhua ; 2010, four Japanese unauthorized access Hebei Province, a military Management District, and military targets illegal videos are reviewed.

Another American National Counterterrorism Center data show that as of the end of 2013, was listed as the world's number up to 1.1 million suspected terrorists, it also happens to find a good footnote to American listeners worldwide. In fact, U.S. intelligence-gathering activities in the world are not alone, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are an important helper. These four countries and the United States together constitute the secret of "five" intelligence alliance.

Five Eyes intelligence alliance of global situation has a clear division of labor, which is divided into five major global alliance will monitor the area: UK for Europe and western Russia; United States is responsible for the Caribbean, China, Russia, the Middle East and Africa; Australia is responsible for South and East Asia; New Zealand responsible for the South Pacific and Southeast Asia; regards Canada, is responsible for monitoring Russia and China, both in Latin America, the North Atlantic and North Pacific. Australia, "Sydney Morning Herald" has revealed that Singapore and South Korea also in the end become a five-eye intelligence alliance partners in Asia, followed by Singapore's intelligence agencies will cooperate with the intelligence alliance to jointly tapping a specific cable, which began in Japan, After Singapore, Djibouti, Egypt, the Straits of Gibraltar, leading to the northern part of Germany, is an extremely important international telecommunications channel, owned by Singapore operator SingTel collaborative laying. Another Macau also revealed that Australia and South Korea's intelligence cooperation has continued for more than 30 years. As Singapore and South Korea joined the five intelligence alliance, an investigation against Chinese arc being formed.

From 2000 to the present, a conservative estimate of espionage was under control of our more than 200 plays, but in China, foreigners were prosecuted theft of state secrets and rare. At present, foreign intelligence agency activities in China have what ways?

China Institute of Contemporary International Relations Institute of Security and Arms Control Li Wei: some foreign espionage or intelligence officers, mainly engaged in the territory of China, including military intelligence, technological intelligence and economic intelligence, and many other aspects of the theft, including some political intelligence. Most of them are the development of China-line people they steal information. Once when we have found that many foreigners engaged in these activities will leave, resulting in very few foreigners are directly captured. Of course, we know that in the past we have uncovered some of the Chinese people foreigners engaged in intelligence work, all have backgrounds with Western intelligence agencies, which is currently a reality we are facing.

The arrest of two Canadian citizens in Dandong, Liaoning Province opened a cafe, weekdays often hold some social activities. How should we guard against the activities of such covert strong foreign intelligence personnel it?

Li Wei: because anyone engaged in foreign intelligence spies working in China, he certainly does not directly say that he is engaged in intelligence or espionage work, as this time that two Canadians, is open cafes or help people travel as a kind of cover. In addition to this screening approach, we believe that people who engage in espionage and intelligence work as well as many other screening methods. Outside to prevent this type of staff, mainly engaged in the business to see him, he would not be interested in some particularly sensitive or confidential matters. As such engaged in espionage and intelligence work of the staff, he has also been training, he will know that under certain circumstances, the person taking the relevant visual or take some other way, or even trap to or extortion money to buy these way, he might have to use. We believe that if there are such signs should be promptly reported to prevent their becoming tools in the hands of others.

Terrorism is just not that big a threat to any country except maybe Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. This is a shocking truth to the military-security-industrial complex which has become drunk on power and government spending since September 11th, 2001. The military-security-industrial complex wants us all to believe terrorists pose a grave threat to the United States in order to justify their enormous consumption of tax dollars, violation of Americans' and foreigners' privacy, and immoral imprisonment of people in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Hundreds of thousands of careers depend on the "war on terror". This is a deeply entrenched, broad-based interest group that lives on the belief that terrorists could kill you at any moment. But the facts show that is not true. Americans are far more likely to die from a car crash, plane crash, homicide, suicide, or heart attack than terrorist attack.

I have a question for the members of SDF: What are the top 10 causes of death in the United States? Where is terrorism on that list?

I don't know about the top 10 causes of death in the US, but I do know the #1 cause of death in the world: being born.

It might sound farcical and cliche, but everyone dies. How we die is what matters. Dying of a sudden heart-attack has completely different repercussions than being killed in a random robbery, so putting cancer or vehicle accidents together with terrorism is an invalid comparison.

Maybe the Canadian government is mum because they are spies. After just accusing China of hacking why would they hold back if innocent Canadians were being used as pawns in a tit-for-tat? There would be more outrage.

Well Duh! I mean really the bigger you are the more people want your secrets.

really this translation is either really bad or the story is but a point or two.
1) Just because you're Canadian doesn't mean your working for Canada. The story never makes it clear who if any these people were working for, if they were working as spies.
2) Just because the PRC catches spies doesn't mean that they are not spying as well. In point of fact the capture could mean they got them through spies. Aldridge Ames the CIA agent turned KGB mole fed the Russians large numbers of American Spies in the 1980s he nearly dismantled the CIA's Russian operations. One of the Juiciest secrets Spies often want is the identities of there counterparts.

Maybe the Canadian government decided to act on the purported Chinese spy after learning covertly that their own were already detained in China.

Or how about the Canadian government is mum because China is sending a message that they know where Canada's spies are to which this couple Canada believed their covers were safe all this time. The outing of spy activities is really a political show where you don't see China get engaged in because they probably learn more by not outing them. China could have known these were little fish and could afford to expose them. But the message is big.

Agreed completely. This arrest was definitely a message.

Nothing related to terrorism in the top 10. Where is it in the rankings? The CDC doesn't have a "terrorism category" as deaths from terrorism are included in the "assault by other means (not firearms)" category which shows 5,170 deaths in 2011. But that includes all knife, poisoning, bludgeoning, strangulation, and other types of murders.

says there were 3,487 deaths in the U.S. from terrorism from 1985 to 2013.

3,487 terrorism deaths in 28 years!!!!!

All the terrorism deaths of the last 28 years

:
- 2 days of heart disease deaths
- 39 days of car accidents
- 47 days of falls
- 1.5 years of peptic ulcers
- 2 years of hernias

In 2011 there were more deaths from Emphysema (9,352) and accidental drownings (3,556) than all the terrorism deaths of the last 28 years. There were nearly as many deaths from asthma (3,345) in 2011 as all the terrorism deaths of 28 years.

solarz made a good point that some deaths are worse than others because they occur suddenly (leaving no time to say good-bye or prepare a will) and to young people. That's why the CDC chart I posted above shows leading causes of death by age group. Accidents, cancer (malignant neoplasms), and suicides are the leading causes of death for young people. And just because suicides are voluntary doesn't mean they can't be prevented through better mental health care.

A reasonable American should be far more concerned with bad and drunk drivers or their own depressed psyche than Al Qaeda, Ansar al-Islam, or other faraway groups. And that's where America should spend its money, too! The defense budget is roughly 10x the size of the medical research budget, despite diseases being responsible for more than 90% of all deaths, and crime and accidents responsible for the other 9.99%! This misallocation of resources makes my head hurt.

All the while the military-security-industrial complex wants us to surrender our privacy, accept torture, accept international kidnapping, accept indefinite arrest, accept airport body scans to fight a miniscule threat to Americans' lives. The War on Terror is like using a shotgun to to fight a mosquito in the house when the kitchen is on fire.

Not arguing your main point, just on a related note the problem with preventive services is it is difficult to accurately determine the risk to go without it and what collateral damage there might be whether it be anti-terrorism efforts, anti-crime, preventive healthcare, dental care, fire prevention, consumer protection, environmental protection... you name it.
