Does it take pain to bond people?

I was reading CNN's news on the Chinese graduate student's death, and for the first time, the comments below were comforting, warm, friendly words. Normally CNN's stories on anything China-related are negative, while the comments are even more cruel. This time was different. And it made me wonder was it because this is one of the times where both Chinese and American blood were spilled due to a common enemy.

There were even comments of prayers for both countries and both countries banding together against the threat.

Either way, I don't hope we humans only get together when disaster strikes. It's often too late, and often we have to lose someone we love.

For one thing, she is a girl, and non threatening, killed in a supposedly terror attack. Even the redneck china bashing crowd can't be dicks about that.

Apparently not now. I just read the comments and there's a China-hater on there claiming any hint of criticism that the US deserved this attack are from Chinese posters and this girl should get no sympathy because of it. I checked out his previous posts where he claims this and there's no such conclusion that the posters he's referring to came from a Chinese and then in one post he claims that CNN deleted the comments. It reminds me of the journalist John Hockenberry. I saw him interviewed years ago and he said China refers to the US as "The Great Satan." China... the communist atheist country that never embraced any of those religions that believe in Satan? Of course he thinks anyone who doesn't obey the US are all of the same mind. If Iran thinks that then China must too. Just like he must think China is out to exterminate Jews too since the US fought against the Nazis. That's what comes from simpleton black and white thinking. It's like how right-wing conservative news columnist Pat Buchanan charges China is the next Nazi Germany. Ironic when there's the old joke that not many people knew that Pat Buchanan's father died in a Nazi extermination camp. Yeah, he accidentally fell off a guard tower.

Mace.. Welcome to the club, being called "The Great Satan" is quite a common thing, hell the US has warm the title with a sense of pride.
Their are always some jerks who will say people got hurt and they deserved it. Just look up the infamous WBC. You have to grow a thick skin some times. Or do like the hells angels did when the encountered protesting members of said WBC. They reved their engines. Its kinda hard to spout stupidities over a roaring Harley Vrod.

I think you read it incorrectly. John Hokenberry said China calls the US, The Great Satan. He's transferring what the Iranians say to being what China says of the US. That was my point of the comments section from the poster who charged everyone who posted the US deserved this attack was Chinese just so he can declare this Chinese student that was killed deserves no sympathy.

Well there are some people who are beyond cure, and that basher is one of those. I won't even put a single bit of attention to those.

I think the most exemplifying instance is the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. Only a day before the quake occurred, the western media was in full China-bashing mode over the Tibet riots. The moment the quake happened, the bashing stopped completely. When Sharon Stone made her "karma" comment, she was practically lynched by the internet.
