A nuclear submarine in the port of Dalian in northern China has suffered an accident and is leaking radiation, according to a former Japanese fighter pilot-turned-blogger.

“The area is strictly closed off by the Chinese military, and the situation is said to be very dangerous,” Mamoru Sato wrote in Japanese of the alleged July 29 incident.

As with all news stories about Chinese military developments, Sato’s account should be read with a healthy dose of skepticism. As of July 31, no major media had reported on the alleged accident. The only corroboration came from Twitter user “28481k(Alan Lai),” who wrote, “Bohai is closed after a suspected nuclear leak occurred on new nuclear submarine building in Dalian.”

Bohai is one of the shipyard complexes in the vicinity of Dalian.

All the English websites are publishing some variation of this story. The source is allegedly Boxun. There should be a dose of skepticism, but these stories would not appear without some sort of accident occurring.

this is fake news from a (de-ranged) Ex-JSDF officer's blog

It is not the first time Boxun has blown these fake stories.

one time they claimed china is trying to cover up a ebola outbreak.

I would be interested in knowing how the Chinese military could close off the entire Bohai.

Since the Varyag is at Dalian could this be a spin on added security from what's happening there? Plus I wouldn't be surprised there's an attempt to cover-up the embarrassment of Fukushima.

Yeah shifting blames. For now on they can just claim all the radiation from Fukushima is from Dalian since Japan is downwind from china.

That is actually a good point... however I doubt the author had that in mind when he wrote this.

The truth will eventually be out. We can then see whether the posting in the Ex-JMSDF Officer's Blog is false & discrimatory.

Well I wasn't suggesting they were trying to charge that radiation from Fukushima came from Dalian instead. It's simply trying to divert attention away from the worst manufacturing disaster in history onto China. Japan is not going to get the reputation of being the most prepared country in the world anymore. If any cover-up, it's the short-cuts, denial, ego, and blind comfort from reputation alone that made this disaster worse. Disasters are going to happen. This just shows Japan's lauded reputation pre-Fukushima was essentially false.

All I am interested in is where this former JMSDF officer got his information from. If it were something secret within Japan that happened I would be less harsh of a judge. Perfectly plausible for former military officers to have buddies who might still be insiders within Japan's military circles. How did he know what is happening in China when the government is, as he stated, trying to cover up the incident? Why doesn't he go forward to the press if this is going to endanger Japan? Is he really that immoral of a person that he is willing to jeopardize millions of lives in China and Japan by only ranting on his own blog?

That's why the story smells. Basically no one else is reporting this except quoting from the same source. Don't they have radiation detection in South Korea? Japan certainly tried to cover-up the severity of Fukushima. What more to charge China of the same and add a military angle to boot. Smells political all the way.
