This is why paddles are so critical.. In the video below you could see the LSO calling out to realigned the heading but the bug driver for whatever reason didn't hear and on the 2nd call maybe he paniced etc and push the stick too far right and had the wing down. The loss of lift and the slight aileron roll on landing caused the hook to catch the 1 wire but the wing tip rail caught the 3rd.

Luckily no one was killed and the jet was salvageble. This is why it has been said over and over again the deck of an aircraft carrier is the most dangerous place to work on.

Paddles are life savers but pilots don't like em cause they get graded by them.. Sometimes harshly. Paddles are the better euphemisms. LSO are also affectionately called more colorful terms. Hopefully PLAN don't pick those up.

Is this photo new? To me it looks like what we have seen a while back.
If it's a new photo, then it it makes a stronger case they could only bring 13 planes on deck. Maybe they have more J-15s in the hanger, maybe not. Once upon a time, they had a prop J-15 in the hold. And then there could also be hanger queens.

According to other Chinese sources, this particular photo was taken when Liaoning was in Taiwan strait on her way home. So it is new.
