I'm not seeing the pictures I want to see. Night Ops! When are we going to see a few Flankers take off and land on the Liaoning in the pitch dark ?

I expect the PLAN is in no hurry to rush to night operations. It is quite possible they could acquire a basic night operation capability fairly quickly if they have identified a pressing need. But it seem to me the approach PLAN has adopted is to assume there will be no war far quite some time, and instead of checking all the boxes right away and have some half assed ability to stage any operation as soon as possible, it will incrementally consolidate skills by increasing order of risk, so that it does what is can do very well before going to the next step instead of being able to do a little of everything, but with only basic competence and risk a lot of unnecessary losses and attrition.

Some of the best overall CSG pics from the PLAN so far with the Liiaoning, CV-16.

This first one is the carrier with two Type 054A FFGs, two Type 052C DDGs, and 1 Type 052D DDG (in the rear).

Next is the carrier with the single trailing Type 052D DDG.

Then we have one of the carrier with two Type 054As and two Type 052C DDGs.

The last two are of the carrier with a single FFG (054A) and a single DDG (052C)

GREAT stuff. We used to PS photos like these together years ago...now it is stark reality.

Higher resolution versions may become available later, but the watermarks will likely stay.
So, here's CV16 from some years ago at Dalian with the crew berthing ship in front:

...and here's a closer view of just the carrier.

...and now for comparison, here's CV-17 without the water marks at about the same place and orientation from just a few days ago, with the flight deck's initial paint job:

Pretty nice comparison...and two very nice carriers!

Pilot training is main task of Liaoning. They need to double down on pilot training because it take a lot of time to train competent carrier based pilots. Using J15 for training is wasteful since the plane structure has finite life time. But PLAN is now receiving more and more of JL9G as well as JL10
I wish they strengthen the structure for arresting wire training

GAIC delivers several JL-9G advanced training aircraft to the Chinese Navy.

A rare look at Liaoning's CIC, which I screen-grabbed from a recent documentary. As you would expect, it features a large number of consoles of the same design found on 052D. With all this space, I would love to have seen consoles with a
