王治国回忆,工程启动以来,同一部门的同事中,约有15位因为工作原因而牺牲。
Wang Zhiguo recalls that since the start of the project, about 15 colleagues from his department had fallen in the lines of duty.

The context suggests that the project in question is the refit of Varyag.

Anybody like a fresh hot rumour of CV-17 Liaoning open house?

Here's the summarised version, just what relevent to us:

Sources tell the press that the CV-17 Liaoning will make a port of call to Hong Kong in July, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of HK return to China. No other details available at this time, such as when and where the carrier will laid anchor, and most importantly, would there be an open house event.

Will you go? Post some photos

Based on the language, my interpretation is that 15 colleagues in Wang's department perished between 1990's (when the Chinese CV project started) and 2012 when the CV-16 was commissioned. Although China only got the Varyag in 2002, their CV project must've started way earlier.

Even if we only start counting when China got the Varyag, that's still 10 years. That's a little more acceptable than 15 people died within 15 months as some implied earlier...

Liaoning set out from Qingdao in east China on Sunday for a routine training mission, a military statement said.

The naval formation includes destroyers Jinan and Yinchuan, frigate Yantai and a squadron of J-15 fighter jets and helicopters.

The training mission, like previous ones, is expected to strengthen coordination among the vessels and improve the skills of crew and pilots in different marine regions.
