J-15 is ideal for pilot training and more than 8 aircraft are not taken on board. The Chinese build up their carrier air force wisely and responsibly.

It would be exciting to see Liaoning transformed into a CATOBAR aircraft carrier. In the design of the former Varyag this conversion was planned.
Have there been any official confirmation from the Ukrainian shipyard about this? My understanding was that the Ulyanovsk was suppose to be their first catapult capable carrier. It doesn't make any sense to plan but not install a catapult system when the Ulyanovsk was scheduled to be built a few years later.
Yes it would be. However such a conversion would take at least two years to install. Just my opinion.

Maybe later. When the first super carriers come to the fleet, the Chinese need training carriers for the numerous pilots.
A lot of the training can be done ashore. The USN has no dedicated training carrier and they have about 800+ carrier borne aircraft. The USN just uses what CVN is available for training. I'm not sure but the PLAN has less than 50 carrier borne aircraft. The PLAN has a lot of time and money invested in CV-16. I think they should use the ship as an active carrier. Just my opinion
