Foxconn is a Taiwanese company that operates somewhat like the Singapore Flextronix... kind of high-end contract manufacturing. They produce iphones, for example, and have factories in China and throughout SE Asia as well. They are famous for suicides:mad:, and so they're in the news.

I understand the other stuff, but most other people won't! :)

Hahaha... The most funny thing is the world is the entity is right in front of you yet you can't recongnize it.

In this case, the difference between the English name and the Chinese name, kills me. Man, Foxconn is 富士康! I guess this dose conclude that the more a enterprise name is known in its original language to its native people, the less its "International" name is known to the native people. - Everyone knows 富士康, so hell who cares its english name?

Exactly to the topic, when CPC makes its presence in big enterprise like Foxconn, in the situation of otherwise no way to "touch" this kind of (nearly) monopoly enterprise who can afford the best lawyers money can buy, and chest-thumbing the victims - CPC can make a difference, while not necessary to do it on court. People virtually strike on Foxconn's resolve, with the blessing of CPC's back up, Foxconn in the end have to accept what ever terms that favors the labors, which won't happen or at least happens in such a short time, by go through court trails.

CPC got its own problem nowadays, but CPC makes benifit to the foundation of Chinese people, like no other.

My biggest dream is to join the PLA. But can I?

Hi! I am a foreigner living in Norway (europe). Does anyone know if the People's Liberation Army accepts anyone that isn't native Chinese?
I am currently studying like mad to learn Mandarin, and hope to one day be able to hold a conversation in it.

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I cannot find any websites owned by the PLA.

Simpliest answer is no. For one being non-chinese nationale you are out of question.

Now ain't like the civil war era in the last century when they'd otherwise welcome foreign volunteers.

My suggestion is to keep studying Chinese and join the Norwegian army, work your way up and one day you might become a military attache...

Different from US military, PLA doesn't hire mercernaries. You have to be Chinese citizen in order to join its military. Even if you're white, you can still enlist. According to the Chinese constitution, as long as you have the citizenship and is physically fit with no major body defects. But the hard part is getting the citizenship, plus, you probably don't want to give up your privilege as a Norwegian, especially those amazing healthcare and great pension plans.

If you are thinking of applying for the citizenship, which I know you won't. But for just the fun of it, you would need to be either half Chinese, meaning mother or father that holds a Chinese passport. This is the easiest and the quickest way to gain citizenship. But you would also have to give up your Norwegian passport. The harder way, and in this case for you, the only way, is to apply directly for the citizenship as a pure foreigner. It is extremely difficult. The best way to get it approved is to contact CCTV, the biggest and most influential media in China, to make a documentary about your case. On how a blonde hair and blue eyed Norwegian man loves China so much to the point that he wants to become a Chinese citizen. Make sure the documentary is well known and make them interview the immigration department that handles and approves these applications. I can guarantee you that you will be approved.

I wouldn't guarantee anything. By law the foreigner is required to have made unique contributions or bring with him/her skill sets that are not available in China. Having popularity alone simply isn't going to cut it.

Man you really knows the propaganda procedure inside out. :)

One thing you may wrong, is that as far as I know, there is no such thing as "immigration department" among Chinese offical departments, PSB handles the relative aspect of the job of which you described, and the Customs only doing "re-check" of your status, everytime you passes one.

And no, 榮譽il won't able to join PLA, even if he got the Chinese citizenship.

It appears this thread has less attraction to people (than, say, J-20 threads) so that they would like to read the whole thread from begining. People just "jumps in" into the discussion. Actually, I think this is one of the best thread in the whole SDF, that there is a very strong culture exchange (at least previous pages) took place, for those actually likes to know more about China, many people puts some great opinions on different aspects of Chinese life... as named "resident lefty" by some, I even post some introduction of Chinese Young Pioneers and Communist Youth League, in response to some enquiry.

Can't find anything of PLA?(owned by PLA?) what's this?

(If bortherd, can do some dig and found some regulation / guidlines on the interested matters, in this case, the recruiting)

quick-check of "can I get to join the PLA"? for yourslef:

1. Love CPC, and China, and believe they simply coherent into the one same identity, that is Chinese people's interests, or don't bother going any further.
2. got any evidence of your claim of point 1? Let us (PSB, MOE, your company, local govt, neighborhood administration居委会, ...) check.
3. around 16-20 (16-18 actually), extremely fit - on top of that, the higher education level, the better.
4. extremely lucky - millions of 16-18 year old guys who fufill points 1-3 applys, single digit percent of applicants get picked, EVERY YEAR.

And that's only "quick-check".
