The research paper was uploaded on January 31 on bioRxiv, an open source initiative containing resources on biological research. The research paper claims the spike protein in novel coronavirus contained four "insertions" that "are not present in other coronaviruses". The research paper notes, "amino acid residues in all the 4 inserts have identity or similarity to those in the HIV1 gp120 or HIV-1 Gag". HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.

The scientists argue that similarity in amino acid identity was "not a random fortuitous finding", hinting that it could have been engineered

But Chinese researchers' earlier work established that the new coronavirus is 96% similar to a bat virus, and it is also quite similar to the SARS coronavirus, which is also though to be from bats.

Coronavirus can be treated by cow urine, dung: Hindu Mahasabha president
IANS New Delhi January 31, 2020 19:07 IST

As the coronavirus scare runs across the world with one confirmed case in India, Hindu Mahasabha has proposed bizarre treatment for the dreaded virus infection. Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, president of Hindu Mahasabha, on Friday said cow urine and cow dung can be used for treating novel coronavirus disease. He also said that a special yagna will be performed to "kill the novel coronavirus and end its effects on the world".

Pushing that again? You have pushed the theory that it was US made. I have heard other commentators point out that Wuhan hosts a Chinese BSL4 facility as well.
It’s classic conspiracy theory.

It’s classic conspiracy theory.

If it didn't get accidentally released from the Wuhan lab then only people to be blamed from this are those who allow extremely unhygienic wet markets.

NPR's Ailsa Chang talks with Zhenzhong Si, postdoctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo, about why China's "wet markets" remain popular despite public health concerns tied to disease outbreaks.
