I wonder if it is spreading faster among people in close family or group is because of communal sharing of entree plates with infected person w/o symptoms. May be common sense to some of us but any idea if the govt or media are telling people to stop "communal" sharing?

I am not trying to spread or engage in unsubstantiated rumours, but are there any non Chinese origin or non asian people that has been found infected by the virus? Or this virus infects only people of Chinese origin so far?

I don't think there's been any breakdown of ethnicity I'm aware of yet.

However, considering where this virus began, perhaps it is wise to first ask whether it would be strange or expected for the vast majority of the cases so far to reflect the ethnic demographics of where it began... If it is expected, then there is no reason to engage in extra speculation at this stage.

I’m a PhD, so not that kind of doctor :p:D

My focus is cancer biology, so has little experience with infectious diseases. My group uses viruses, more specifically HIV viruses, to get the genes of our interests into human cells. So our goals are typically the opposite of the virologists. We want our viruses to get in, not to stop them...

And "thermonuclear pandemic", don't forget that.

It's useful for people whose life's mission is bashing China and overthrowing its government. Everything is an opportunity to them.

The announcement by Ma Xiaowei that the virus can spread before symptoms appear (if they ever do) is concerning, however. How troubling a development do you consider this? Given that the virus's genome has already been sequenced, how quickly can a vaccine be put together?

Considering the virus jumped from a wild animal to a human, it is highly highly unlikely that the virus has any kind of ethnicity specificity. The virus doesn’t even care if its host is human or not... In fact, I personally have not heard any human-infecting virus has any kind of specificity toward a single ethnic group.

To me it's not surprising that those with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease are at the highest risk of death.

The SARS-CoV has spike ligands and enters cells via ACE2 receptor on cells in the vasculature, heart, and kidneys.

ACE2 is responsible for regulating blood pressure and renal function and is a prime target for the treatment of hypertension.

ACE2 loss of function is also associated with lung inflammation and injury, hence the pneumonia symptoms.

    (my speculations)

An Indian girl was infected just fyi

And interestingly Hong Kong was ready for this shit D:.
