Computer Talk II

I was looking for the "Computer Talk" thread and found that it is dead for exactly one year. The last post was by Quickie on 11-April-2012. Today is 11-April-2013. The forum rules forbidden post on an old thread which is more than 6 months. So here a new thread about computer.

What browser do you use? And which one do you think is best? I have Chrome, Firefox and of course I.E on my computers. I recently upgrade I.E to latest version 10 on my Windows 7. I.E sucks!!! I say so because some web-based interfaces can't display correctly, and I eventually have to turn to Chrome or Firefox to use those interfaces. I still use Windows 7, none of my computers has Windows 8.

I use firefox. It's best for me as I post a lot of photos. My wife uses IE when on her computer and my computer. . We have chrome installed but never use it. We use Windows 7. We have no problems with it.

One thing about firefox. Yahoo news videos do not play in what ever version I'm using of FF. If anyone has solution let me know!

I use foxfire also. But I stopped updating the newer versions firefox because it seems to cause glitches in my computer when browsing.

Popeye you should have stayed with the older versions. I can see videos fine. I used IE long ago in my infant internet dayz. IE has too many holes in it for me. This geeky dude at work said IE was still the number one browser. I don't believe him. Isn't google chrome number one?

I tried Yahoo news' videos and found things like this:
- When I clicked the video thumbnails, nothing happens. Is this your problem?
- However, I right-clicked the thumbnails and open videos in a new tab, the videos play fine.
- My version of Firefox is 15. It updates itself automatically.

Chrome creates a LOT of processes, something that I'm not very fond of. I wonder if this is the reason why chrome seems faster than IE and firefox (hogging all the resource).

I wonder "who" said "sorry". Yahoo or Firefox? The Firefox on my laptop has no problem playing video on Yahoo at all.

I google it and found something similar.

For example, when I go to my online newspaper, lohud.com, I can play the videos they offer on Internet Explorer and Chrome but not Firefox. I heard the the problem is that Firefox is not always compatible with Shockwave Flash 11.5 but I don't know how to fix it. I have Windows Vista and a Sony Vaio VGN-NS190J laptop. My internet provider is Optimum.com and Yahoo is my homepage.

Helpful replies

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Anyone download Internet Explorer 11? Ever since I downloaded it, I get kicked out of pages on certain sites especially Chinese origin ones which is a huge headache. I know people hate Internet Explorer. Yes I hate the bugs but a lot of third party stuff are unstable on other browsers.

I stopped using I.E. since its default homepage was hijacked and directed to the homepage of a certain software company after installing an application by the same company. If it's so easy to be hijacked (I've even installed the new I.E. 11, resetting everything to default, but it still zombied to the unwanted homepage) , then it's probably not a safe browser to use. I've since switched to Chrome.
