, has displayed its independently developed TD220 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at Beijing International Hi-Tech Expo.

This new type of UAV has been put into mass production and applied in military areas and surveillance for the power grids.

The hi-tech company has received a total of over 50 orders for TD220 purchase, according to its vice president.

The vice president also indicated that the workshop has an annual production capacity of 50 units of this type of plane. Sharp increase in orders was mainly driven by the improvement in product performances including intelligent features in automatic take-off and landing, hover and waypoint planning, with the continuous voyage time as high as 5 hours and a load of 100 kg.

Meanwhile, State Grid Corp of China, the nation's largest power supplier, has bought 21 units of the company's quad-rotor UAVs this year.

Beijing ZHZ Technology's portfolio of products covers UAV, airborne equipment and automatic laser bird control that are applied in electricity, agriculture, public security, emergency, marine regulation, geological prospecting and video shooting.

First Coaxial UAV in China?

The TD220 Unmanned Helicopter is one of ZHZ Technology’s the most successful products. Many years of research was spent to complete the TD220’s independent intellectual property rights. Currently,it is considered to be the most mature technology and has the largest payload capability in the domestic civilian market. Equipped with advanced coaxial-twin-rotor tailless design and intelligent HeliAP flight control system, the TD220 can automatically and independently takeoff, land, hover and conduct path planning for up to 5 hours.
Performance Indicator:
Rotor diameter: 4.00 m
Maximum take-off weight: 300 kg
Empty pattern in weight: 150 kg
Payload: 150 kg (gas)
Dynamic Ceiling: 4000 meters
Hovering: 2500 meters
Cruising speed: 100 km/h
Main Characteristic:
Compact structure, high power efficiency
Automatically take-off and land
Long-endurance, big load
HeliAP autopilot, avionics system redundancy design.
Provides an independent power supply and various data interfaces for task loading

Entrepreneur under 30 makes UAVs fly high

Among the entrepreneurs born after 1980, there is Tian Gangyin and his team. They have an ambitious plan to develop an unmanned helicopter to fly across the Pacific and the Himalayas.

It means a three-ton, eleven meters long unmanned helicopter will have an operation ceiling of 9200 meters above ground, with a maximum cruising speed of 300 kph.

Tian Gangyin and his college alumni Man Yi took 40,000 yuan (12,808 US dollars) respectively and set up Beijing ZHZ Technol Co. LTD. together. The money came from their parents, who saved for their wedding and housing, as People’s Daily reported.

During four years of university, Tian Gangyin spent most of the time on UAVs, and its flight controllers. He and Man Yi constantly optimized the design of the flight control system. By the end of 2007, they condensed the fly controller into a cigarette box size, which leads the field in China. They sold it at nearly 300,000 yuan (48,029 US dollars) and won their first "pot of gold" for their business.

In 2012, they developed the first electronic coaxial unmanned helicopter. Compared internationally with the same type of unmanned helicopter, their UAV has less than half the parts but with double the reliability. Due to their excellent performance, they received seven orders in the test phase.
In 2013, Tian Gangyin presented their independently developed portable electric coaxial unmanned helicopter at the Beijing International High-Tech Expo. It is the first UAV of this kind in the world.

The UAV, 1.5 meters long and 140 kg in net weight, has the ability to cope with maximum loads of 100 kilograms at a highest flight speed of 100 kph and a ceiling of 4000 meters. The endurance time of UAV is 5 hours. In addition, it can freely rise and fall in a small spatial extent with a double speed and load in comparison to rival products. Even today, the UAV is still leading the industry.

ZHZ Technol Co. LTD now has developed its R&D team from 3-4 people to 50-60 engineers. Every year, the company receives more than 100 orders of several types of UAVs.

Even when you are logged in you'd still have to enlarge the pictures one by one. Also in-lining the pics allows you to put explanation below or above each individual pics as you go along.

Actually I just found out that uploading as attachments allows you the option of putting it in as thumbnails or inside the post. This is neat then, and less fussy that having to use third party image hosting.

But it still shows up as thumbnails for people not signed in.

I can't believe Pakistan friends shot down a Chinese drone on their border!

Ok.......... that was intentionally misleading on my part. :p But it's kind of funny that Pakistan military shot down a Chinese made civilian-drone used by Indian military along the LoC. Technically is still chinese drone right? :D

No...it's not.

It is Chinese built...but it is definitely an Indian UAV which explains everything.

Latest size assesment, with the newest image taken into consideration.
Assumption is that height is 6.5 meters. if not, other figures will be different as well, scaled by the same amount.

fuselage length 14,8 m
overall length 15,7 m
fuselage to fuselage width 7-9 m
wingspan 39-47 m

Mid values of fuselage width and wingspan were calulated on the assumption that visible wingspan/width needs to be multiplied by factor of 1.5 due to perspective. 1.5 factor was guesstimated by similar images of globalhawk from similar angles, since it has similar wing shape and known dimensions. While I may be a little bit off with the angle, i do believe 43-ish meter wingspan with give or take few meters should be plausible.

Lastly, can anyone identify the towing vehicle and find its height?
