Nice photo of JL-9, thank you.
It always puzzles me why PLAAF chose JL-9 and not more advanced JL-15 ? I don't think $$$ is the main issue?

Yes, but the main reason is that it was simply earlier available !

Not much earlier though, 2003 vs 2006

Sorry ??? I really do not understand Your post.

My point was simply that even if both types overlap in capabilities and it is surely not ideal to have two so much similar systems, the JL-9 was already available much earlier.

JL-9: maiden flight Dec. 2003 - delivery & 'service' entry of preserials at the FTTC May 2007 - certified Dec. 2011 - IMO related due to being in fact a JJ-7-spin-off development.

L-15/JL-10: maiden flight of L-15 early 2006 - maiden flight of JL-10/AJT July 2013 ... service entry ???? - IMO mostly related due to being in a new design.

A new image of two naval JL-9A for the carrier sadly again wih psed serial-numbers ... quite interesting, that designation is new to me; so far I thought it was called JL-9G. Anyway ... the hook is still missing.

Huitong mentioned at his website that a preliminary contract to export FTC-2000G was signed with an unspecified African customer.

It would be interesting to know if it is going to be the FTC-2000G version (model only) shown below.
