Chinese Trainer Aircraft (JL-8, JL-9, JL-10 (L-15), etc.)

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

I'm sure China will sell a lot of these trainers, especially in South America. Interestingly though, I heard Argentina are going to start producing their Pampa trainers once again. Perhaps this will result in more competition in South America.

If you look at the spec of Pampa, it could hardly threaten L-15 sales. In fact, I think Argentina may in fact buy L-15 but the problem is Chile has take a quicker step in snapping up this L-15. I am sure Argentina do not want to buy a similiar jet to its rival(chile)

L-15 has a whopping speed of 1.6 mach powered by 2 x AI-222K-25F engine with afterburner giving it a max 8400kg of thrust.

This trainer is a fighter/attacker jet in disguise. I am sure it will eat up a Pampa easily given both pilots are equally competent.

You are correct in your assumption that the L-15 could take on the Pampa, even the Pampa III (which is a single seat light attack variant) The Pampa only has a 3.500 lb thrust engine, hardly what I would call high-power. The Pampa was design to be an advanced trainer to transition pilots from Turbo-prop to jet. It is a very pilot friendly aircraft and very forgiving. It is also used to train pilots in air to ground tactics and provide the Air Force Pilots in general with an aircraft to have more flight hours. That’s it.
Just to correct you on one thing. Chile has signed a memorandum of understand to acquire the M-346 Aermacchi, not the L-15. Additionally Uruguay is considering the Yak-130

Price wise, Korean T-50 is out, it costs double the price as L-15. And Aermacchi M-346 Master being made from Yak-130 and produced in Italy won't be cheap either. That only left Yak-130 as the true competitor as L-15, as far as I can see they both have almost identical price. But question is how different are the performances between the two.

You missed one that has more flight hours than all the rest combined..

US Navy T-45C Goshawk. Carrier borne jet trainer.

T-45C is an old design. L-15 is an trainer design with mind to be a wicky attacker aircraft at start. LERX giving it high angle of attack and the 2 AI-222K-25F turbofan giving it a whopping 8400kg of thrust combined.

T-50 and Yak-130 are 2 aircrafts that are capable of converting into light fighter/attacker aircraft if neccessary. Similiar in concept of L-15.

T-45 if try to be a light fighter will be suicide unless it met some real obsolete fighter..
