So, that beckons two follow-up questions; 1) any rumors of strengthening JL-9 airframe to equip arresting hooks? 2) Any rumors of JL-10 being fitted with arresting hooks?

Well there were some recent activities with JL-10 and the Navy, but nobody knows if they intend to use it as a carrier trainer.

Indeed !!! ... COMAC C919-test, Type 001A launch and now this !??? IT#S like Christmas & Eastern on the same day.

However 78437 is unique, it would mean 172. Brigade ... or again from the new serial-numbering system?

The more interesting is here and i have see 80 - 135 in order... without export ofc.

PLAAF JL-10 s/n 78437, 98th JL-10 on assembly line. Today is also the 66th anniversary of the founding of the HAIG

Not in 1, 2 etc... training brigades or rgts which use JL-8 a new ? how many trainer in a Brigade or Rgt ?

The latest image (April 2017) confirmed that the first batch of JL-10 has finally entered the service with PLAAF (S/N 78x3x), wearing a light blue color scheme. It was rumored (March 2017) that a naval variant (JL-10H?) has entered the service with PLAN as well.

I can imagine that it would be a good Q-5 replacement for the Q-5s export customers.

But the weapons mix on the display looks more "multi-role" than "ground attack" to me, so it might be meant to show off its capabilities as a trainer for multi role aircraft (or perhaps as a low cost multi-role aircraft for those who can't afford anything more expensive ?).
