Side exhausts make the side of your hull dirty. Maintenance issue like having to cut the hull open to replace the diesels vs lifting out of the stack. South Africa navy also reported water ingestion problem in rough sea with their side exhaust MEKO. But hey, the customers get what they want.

Thanks, makes sense. I figure there's a scalability limit to this design as you don't see larger warships use the side exhaust design? I wonder if the Algerian's chose this design not so much for IR reduction but to enable more deck space such as the dome radar/sensor on the secondary mast instead of exhaust stack.

Ok interesting another large hospital would be good they are nice for "soft diplomacy" missions

500 bed capability may be nice for a multi-brigade oversea operation. This scale of power projection is quite significant.

Due to higher operational cost, larger hospital ships of US Navy operate less frequently than its smaller counterpart of PLA Navy.
