Su-35 no. 14 with something under its wing, possibly the unidentified ECM pod?
So is it true? did one J-20 bounce 4 SU-35s and win?? why did we buy this Russian jet anyway?? the Grumpy Captain must have taken off his "squadron patch"
do you know this jet has OVT? he looks like he's being interviewed by CNN??
that pod look like a FLIR, for targeting J-20s???
I would give 10 bucks to have a transcript of this conversation??
Siege, intercepts are quite often tasked to aircraft intentionally flying without underwing weapons,, now he may have the canon magazines full, as guns are often used to fire "warning shots", just as in naval intercepts using a 50 or other "deck gun"??
Its to send a message of no ill intent, and to prevent things from becoming heated up accidentally..
That may well be a FLIR pod?? or an external EOTS pod,,, I know they have been trying to field some of those on F-15Cs I believe.
That doesn't look like either a KAB-500T training seeker or an empty rocket launch tube... the video unfortunately doesn't play for me, does it contain footage from an underwing camera? If so, that might be it - a TV recorder pod (certainly does look like it contains an optical aperture at the front).
