Just to fly out to the sea, that is crazy...

Yes, it is, but I would suspect they are wishing to illustrate the "long legs", or maybe "extended reach", of the SU-35?? I'm supposing this is unrefueled or is he gonna land and refuel? ( hes, gonna have to pee really bad!)

he doesn't appear to be carrying weapons?? no aux tanks either??

Test? That data better be well-known and verified way before the deal was set. This is a $2 billion jet purchase, not a surprise grab bag LOL

The data definitely would have been verified before purchase and even tested as well but Chinese pilots will be testing those perimeters during training exercises and might try to push the documented limits further.

If I am not mistaken this is the first official confirmation that Su-35s are fully operational in China. Which regiment is operating these planes? K1S?

That's a good question ... we know for sure that a few are assigned to the 6th Brigade based at Suixi in the STC:

PLAAF Su-35 61174 + 61177 - 6. Brigade - 20170927.jpg

However we also have older images showing IMO clearly some sort of 2306x ... which would be the old system for the 5th Division and as such unlikely:
