Chinese purchase of Su-35

It's really kind of crazy. Seems like they are ether super secretive about it...even more so now than the J-20, or they are ashamed of it...or simply do not put enough emphasis on it to show it.
Even the Vietnamese news are criticizing that the Chinese are too secretive. They showed the J-20 since day 1 but not so for the Su-35 until now. While the Russian were so eager to announce every step of the deal. That made us have to guess and doubt if the deal even exist!

I don't think they are being secretive. It makes no sense for them to be open about their most advanced fighter (the J-20) but secretive about the Su-35.

Additionally, the Russians have been taking their Su-35 to air shows for years. There must be thousands upon thousands of Su-35 photos. Many people, including civilians and military personnel, throughout the world have actually physically examined the plane when it showed up at air shows.

There is literally no point in preventing people from taking photos.

In my opinion, it's the combination of "being a little ashamed" and "simply don't care". After two decades of developing their own domestic fighters and having the J-10 and the J-20 to show for it (plus the J-11/15/16, etc), it would be a little embarrassing to still import the Su-35.

Secondly, since the Chinese have been looking at Su-35-like planes (Su-27/30/33 and J-11/15/16) for the past 20+ years, it's simply not interesting any more. Thus less motivation for wall climbers. Especially when China has tightened up their security, which means more severe penalty for wall climbers, it simply makes little sense to risk so much for something that millions have known and seen for years. Then no wall climbers = no photos.

Maybe there were perceived to be secretive because they really only penned the final sale agreement at the very last minute whereas the Russians were already hyping it up since negotiations were already ongoing.

It's not too different than many other real world deals. The seller usually advertises it first however the buyer typically only confirms it once they have it in hand.

SO, how many actual SU-35 pictures have we seen Deino?

I am surprised that we are not seeing a lot more.

It's like the Chinese are reluctant to show these birds in the least.

I have seen a LOT of PS images...but very very few actual photos. If that one with all the people standing in front of it is an SU-35, then how many more actual pics have you seen?

I don't think they have any special feeling toward the Su-35. Nothing to be ashamed of, but nothing especially noteworthy either. They bought a workhorse. This isn't one of their homebred showhorses.

True, but still show us your new Russian girlfriend to the family, must we have to wait for another relative wedding in order to finally see her at the guest table?:D:p

To admit I don't know why they are so secretive and IMO all arguments are already on the table; the true is most likely a mix of them.

Anyway it is simply a fact: The first four Su-35 are in China and if the latest rumours are correct, it cannot be excluded that more will follow ... in the end, so what ?

Concerning the number of images, I know exactly 4 !

, estimated to be worth $2 billion, in 2015.

had not yet started but the deal's implementation was underway, since the company planned to supply four Su-35 to China by the end of 2016.

The Su-35 fighter is a 4++ generation aircraft employing technologies of the fifth generation, designed by the Sukhoi Aviation Holding Company, which belongs to Russia's United Aircraft Corporation. The first experimental Su-35 was first presented at Russia’s MAKS-2007 air show and later it was introduced to a foreign audience at the 2013 Paris Air Show.
