I can't believe this rumor and thread keep going. I said several months ago that the rumored Chinese purchase of Su-35s is becoming the Bigfoot of the SinoDefenceForum--lots of "reports" but nothing ever materializes.

For almost three years we have heard these rumors and seen them regurgitated over and over.

Nothing has come of it to date except more rumors and innuendo.

THREAD CLOSED.

If you come across official news of this in the future, with a verifiable source, contact either Deino or myself and we will reopen this thread...but not until them.

But let us take a look at this report:

Russia is likely to deliver the first batch of Su-35 fighters to China between 2017 and 2018, if the contract is signed this year, according to Kanwa Defense Review.
Russia has decided to sell only 24 Su-35 fighters to China. Since some of those fighters will be deployed to the tactical training center in Guangzhou, according to the report fewer than 24 Su-35s are going to serve with frontline units of the PLA Air Force.
Three frontline units of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force may receive Su-35 fighters due to their experience of operating the Su-30Mkk fighters. The units are the 9th regiment of the 3rd Division, the 85th Regiment of the 29th Division and the 54th Regiment of the 18th Division.
Meanwhile, Su-30MKKs from those three regiments are likely to be transferred to other air force units.

Let's just do some math: only 24 aircraft to be delivered ... usually 8 will go to the FTTC ... making only 16 for these three frontline-units ... to admit I'm surprised that the PLAAF now operates only 5-aircraft per regiment !

Let's remember the quote from Sukhoi's own Boris Bregman at the time of last years Zhuhai airshow: "I think that the contract will be signed at the end of 2014 or at the beginning of 2015,".

I wonder when beginning of 2015 ends in his mind. March? June? Should Boris Bregman or Sukhoi be considered a discredited source after that point?

Another example of public statements and information that should be taken with a grain of salt, when in the context of marketing a system (in the case of Su-35 here) or pushing some other geopolitical agenda.

Well... to be fair, Boris Bregman mentioned that "he think", which essentially meant that he is not sure too, but in his opinion the contract would be signed at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015. However, if his prediction doesn't come true, it doesn't actually mean anything to Sukhoi or himself.

However, if he is to say that, "The contract will be signed at the end of 2014 or at the latest at the beginning of 2015." Now... if that happen, then something about the creditability of the person or organisation he represented when he made those statement will be questioned.

Pinkov was the one that made this story up that China wanted Su-35s because all of China's indigenous programs were found inferior by the PLAAF themselves. When that story didn't go anywhere, he came up with the story that IP theft was the issue why it wasn't happening as he told. Now Pinkov has bought another few years so he can delay being officially called as a liar and wrong. The media reporting on this has its origins from Pinkov's tales. The media has always been a bunch of lemmings. When one writes the story, other will follow with their spin and all based on the same source. If any one has noticed there's all these news outlets yet none of them write their own news. They pays fees to the likes of AP, AFP, Reuters to reprint their stories.

I would agree with you (why I posed it as a question rather than statement) but for the fact that we have seen these declarations of imminent contract signing and aircraft delivery for years now.

At some point the false pontificating of deals to come by our friends at Sukhoi (or any other person/entity in similar circumstance) will reflect negatively on the trustworthiness of their statements. I understand it's marketing, but it reflects poorly on the information they disseminate in general now.
