Chinese purchase of Su-35

I don't know who this guy is, but his response to a direct question is interesting. Although he was asked a very direct question: whether China signed a deal for the Su-35, he didn't answer the question. He basically said that the Su-35 has been a collaborative project between Russia and China. And after efforts from both sides, there has been some success. And both nations will continue to collaborate in a mutually beneficial way.

Why not just answer the question? It's already in the news everywhere...

that sounds pretty much like a yes to me.
LOL, you have to get use to the ways the spokesmen and spokeswomen from China foreign ministry/ defence dept. etc.. answering questions from news reporters. That is they standard response, no direct yes or no, but you can interpret that is affirmative.

And the S-400 sounds like an affirmative too! so China is getting both of these toys S-400 & Su-35. It really looks like Russia-China defense cooperation has definitely been upgraded to a new level.

anything in Chinese internet news that quote Russian news are basically worthless unless you can find the original Russian news.

This according to Tass today. So no final contract signed yet on S-400 or Su-35.

China got a really good fighter, it will make obsolete everything except the F-22 in the pacific
...........
LOL, a fighter that not even India, Vietnam, Indonesia and other Flanker operators want ? I'm sure it'll be a good replacement for J7/J8 in PLAAF though. :)

The Su35 is undoubtedly a good fighter. It just doesn't really bring anything to the table that would warrant the cost of it and the extra logistical burden it would create over buying more of the Flanker variants those countries already operates.

For China, this deal is first and foremost politically driven. Its doing Russia a solid.

If the reports are true that Russia has given in to Chinese demands to install their own radar and avionics, it means China does not need to buy Russian munitions for the Su35s, which will make the logistical and training costs far smaller.

With China likely to also buy AL41s for at least its initial production J20s, that will further reduce the logistical burden of adding the type of the PLAAF inventory.

My question is that if the Chinese chose to retrofit the Su-35s with their own avionics, sensors, electronics, and weapons, why are they paying ~$80 million a pop, which is far more than if they had bought the entire Su-35 package in the first place?

Secondly, the report suggests that the Su-35 has become a point of "collaboration" between the two countries. Could it be that both China and Russia are jointly developing an upgraded variant, this time with Chinese electronics coupled with a Russian 117S engine? That would be the ultimate air superiority fighter.
