Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay state visits to Saudi Arabia, Mali, Senegal, Tanzania and Mauritius from Feb. 10 to 17, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu announced Tuesday.

Jiang told a regular press conference that Hu's visit is aimed at further consolidating China's friendship and cooperation with these countries, strengthening China's cooperation with the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and promoting the implementation of the measures announced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Hu will hold talks and meetings with leaders of the five countries, and exchange views on further strengthening bilateral friendship and cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern, Jiang said.

She added that China believed Hu's visits will promote the strategic friendly relationship between China and Saudi Arabia, and the new type of strategic partnership between China and Africa, consolidate the traditional friendship between China and African countries.

Hu is invited by King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, Malian President Amadou Toumany Toure, Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Mauritian President Anerood Jugnauth and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

Sound interesting to me, the only problems is that when the premier will come many roads will be closed. Hmm I wonder if I will see him in person.

Preparations on for visit of Chinese president

The Mauritian authorities are actively preparing the visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, Hu Jintao, who will be on a state visit to Mauritius as from Monday. One of the exigencies of the Chinese security team was the removal of all the humps on the route of the Chinese president. As he will be staying in Flic en Flac, the authorities have to remove the many humps that are found on the road at Palma.

Works have started since Monday, much to the concern of the inhabitants of the region, who fear that the clear road would encourage motorists to speed on that particular stretch. However, the police say that they will reinforce their presence on the road and install radar cameras to check on speeding. During his two-day visit, the Chinese president would hold talks with the President of the Republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth and the Prime Minister, Dr. Navin on the implementation of some major projects. An agreement on the funding of the SSR International Airport Terminal extension project and a General Grant Agreement would also be signed. A state banquet hosted by the Prime Minister at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, would be given in honour of the Chinese President. Moreover, President Hu Jintao would proceed on the second day of his visit to a wreath-laying ceremony and tree planting ceremony at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses. The presidential delegation would also visit the China Cultural Centre, Bell Village.

The Republic of Mauritius and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations on 15 April, 1972 and since then, the relationship between the two countries has seen a favourable and steady development.
The past years have been marked by the consolidation of Mauritius-China relations characterised by cooperation and mutual understanding.
