The Sri Lanka Air Force has formally accepted delivery of the six brand new PT-6 aircraft assembled at the Aircraft Engineering Wing (AEW) at Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Katunayake during a simple ceremony held in Katunayake on Wednesday (17 October).

According to Air Force media, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy signed the formal final acceptance of the aircraft during the ceremony. The Air Force Commander had initially signed the acceptance of 6 brand new PT-6 Aircraft on 15 May 2018 in Nanchang, China.

Painted according to the recently introduced SLAF colour scheme, the new aircraft were inspected and flight tested by Air Force engineers and pilots, and deemed to be in conformance with the specifications before being inducted into SLAF fleet.

The aircraft will be used for ab initio training of new pilots at the No1 Flying Training Wing of the SLAF Academy in China Bay, Trincomalee. The aircraft will also form the nucleus of an aerobatic display team to be formed in the SLAF.

The ceremony held on Wednesday was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, members of the Air Force Board of Management and representatives of the Aviation Engineering Division of the M/S CATIC of China.

Our airforce should also look at the FTC-2000G as possible replacement for the aging fleet. VT-5 IMHO is an ideal replacement for the T-55AM2 in the army. I've heard rumors of interests in the JF-17 and VT-4 but those are way too expensive.

Blech. At least get the L-15. The VT-5 does seem like a decent tank.

Hyperwarp is probably referring to his national origin Sri Lanka who are T55 users.

Apologies for the confusion. Our meaning 'Sri Lankan Airforce'. Only China has the equipment suitable and more importantly affordable to the SL armed forces. Airforce is in bad shape. MiG-27s are gone. Kfirs are barely flying (I think there is only 1 that can fly). Only the F-7GS are airworthy. Mi-24 are also gone. The FTC-2000G should suffice IMHO. Army and navy are in better shape but Army T-55AM2 needs replacement.
