How many grenades would fit in that cannister?

It looks so modern, like up-engineered from an assault rifle and now more like a special dedicated grenade launcher. One could be hard pressed by looking at the first two pics that they are Chinese.

What exactly is that supposed to mean?

If you dig around, there is a recent picture of a Chinese OICW like weapon being offered for export. It looks like PLA took a pass on it.

I remember that. Weren't there only two photos? One showing the guy holding it, and another with someone pointing it out of an APC or something. The only images I have are so small, you can't really make out anything in it.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to dig it up, but I read it as a rumor. It does have a bit of corroboration though: the QLB-06 is to be issued at the squad level, and the new tripod mounted 35mm grenade launcher at the company level. Together with the recent expose on the bounce air-burst 35mm grenade, I think what likely happened is that the 3 grenade launchers (gun mounted, QLB-06, the tripod mounted) plus the bounce airburst round won the competition against the OICW-like weapon.
