Marvel Comics is teaming up with Chinese internet giant NetEase to create new Chinese superheroes to join the Marvel Universe.

The film played 120,000 sessions on Friday and earned $39.7 million. On Saturday and Sunday it expanded to 140,000 screenings per day and increased its total to $59.7 million and $62.7 million respectively, according to data from Ent Group. After 11 days of release it has scored $469 million.

The total means that “Wolf Warriors” has overtaken “Monster Hunt” and “Fast and Furious 7” to become the second highest grossing film of all time in China. At this pace, it will overtake “The Mermaid” next weekend.

There's a movie critic, if I recall correctly on rogerebert.com, furious how Wolf Warriors 2 portrays China saving Africans from the bad guys. I haven't seen the movie but isn't American actor Frank Grillo one of the bad guys? The pot calling the kettle black... Anyone who has seen the TV show The Last Ship, the last season was all about how the Chinese wanted to wage genocidal war on all it neighbors and it's the Americans who saved them. Hypocrite! The history of American action movies.

my friend from China told me the ridiculously excessive flag waving would make Michael Bay proud! it's basically a Hollywood action movie in REVERSE! watch a Chinese hero battle evil Americans!!

Patriotic movies tend be more action porn. Not a lot of story and depth. I hope Chinese filmmakers get smarter with these types of movies. I'm surprised Beijing allowed such a movie to be made.

Chinese filmmakers are getting smart by taking a page out of a successful foreign formula. And in this case they have struck gold. You can either see making movies as a art or you can see it as a business. The people in Hollywood and the people who made Wolf Warriors II obviously sees making movies as a business.

Maybe the reason why this movie seems to do well in foreign markets is perhabs its refreshing to see a big budget action movie where the Americans are the bad guys for a change.

I'm reading the Hollywood trades who have articles reporting on WW2. Of course they loved the news that China's box office is in a slump meaning they think China's movie industry power is over and then you have a movie like WW2 come along at the Force Awakens level domestic box office... They have to spin the usual superficial nonsense to belittle it. One article mentions Chinese movies don't do well overseas. I write in the comments foreign movies don't do well in the US in general. Does that mean European movies are horrible because they don't do well in the US? Then I mention how when there is a good foreign movie, Hollywood just remakes it cheating the original filmmakers when they don't just show the original in wide release in the US. My post gets rejected when the other comments are filled with stupid childish whining that Hollywood isn't number one and how China cheats robbing Hollywood.

That's why we are having a soft power narrative war with Hollywood. Just keep posting the truth and another narrative view for the rest of the world to look at and judge for themselves.

Yes be terrified. I love the things that get people angry that has no basis except hurting their ego. Just read the first comment angry that it may be fake numbers. And how is that a crime even it were true? And Hollywood has a notorious reputation of creative accounting to cheat outside investors and even their own actors contracted a percentage of the profits.

Geneva (AFP) - "Mrs. Fang", Chinese director Wang Bing's documentary about a family waiting to say goodbye to their elderly Alzheimer's-stricken mother, scooped the top prize at the Locarno film festival in Switzerland Saturday.

The film tells the moving end-of-life story of Fang Xiuying, a farmer who has been struggling with the dementia-type disease for eight years.

After a stay at a nursing home, her family brings her home, and the film focuses on their final days together before her death in 2016.

Wang Bing counts among China's foremost documentary film makers, and has previously served on the Locarno jury.

Now in its 70th year, the Locarno festival takes place every summer in the picturesque Swiss town on the shores of Lake Maggiore.

The runner-up Special Jury Prize went to Brazilian horror film "As Boas Maeiras" (Good Manners) by directors Marco Dutra and Juliana Rojas, which starts off with a woman hiring a maid to help with the housework before taking an unexpected, blood-drenched turn.

France's F. J. Ossang meanwhile won Best Director for film noir "9 Fingers", the organisers said.

French star Isabelle Huppert was named Best Actress for her role as Mrs. Hyde in French director Serge Bozon's film of the same name.

And Danish actor Elliott Crosset Hove took home the Best Actor award for his role in Icelandic director Hlynur Palmason's debut film "Winter Brothers".
