I hope it's actually putting some functional engines on the J-20 at least.
Have you not heard about J-20 prototypes 2021 and 2022, both of which are equipped with new WS-10X engines?
Obviously an exaggeration on my part, but we've been hearing the usual "WS-15 is going along just fine" statement for years now. Not that I am completely skeptical of that, of course.
News flash : engine development takes time

What do you think about WS-20?
What is the current status of the project? What are the newest rumors?
I think it should be soon used on Y-20 considering the acceleration with production, I don't think PLAAF would want that many new aircrafts with the old engine.

Hopefully the CJ-1000 opens a new avenue for China aviation engines

And it’s not just about the engine

Rolls Royce always come out on top not because they build brilliant engines but because also they achieve a edge over competitors when it comes to after sales support

Every single operating Rolls Royce engine has a a series of sensors throughout which monitors temperature, pressure and flow which is relayed via satellite to a control centre in derby England, 1 minute after take off all the data is monitored at the centre and any informalitys addressed

This kind of after sales service is built into service contract which could last up to 20
Years

This is just one example of the kind of market China is trying to enter, very very tough

If China did that, there would suddenly be all sorts of ‘security concerns’ about China being able to ‘track’ planes.
