Seem like they are meeting their schedule with the completion of the new facility. it is win win for both side. China will invest 250 million in modernization of Motor Sich and market access in return for technology. Now that private companies are involve in aero engine I expect faster progress in China quest for independence in aero engine. They will pour in money now that they have the green light

The first aircraft engine assembled in China under Ukrainian technologies within the framework of strategic partnership between PJSC Motor Sich (Zaporizhia) and China's Beijing Skyrizon Aviation Industry Investment Co. Ltd. could be demonstrated by late 2017, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv has said.

During a briefing held in Kyiv and dedicated to the results of a recent visit of the Ukrainian delegation to China to participate in a high-level dialogue within the framework of the "One Belt. One Road" forum, the deputy premier highlighted the agreements achieved on Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation in the aircraft engine industry, saying the creation of aircraft engines production in Chongqing under Ukrainian technologies is "one of the priorities of the government."

"Skyrizon and Motor Sich will create a joint venture for production of aircraft engines using Ukrainian technologies in China's Chongqing. We want in 2017 to show the first engine that will be assembled at this plant," Kubiv said.

He also welcomed the plans of the Chinese side envisaged by the cooperation program to invest $250 million in the modernization of Motor Sich, noting that the implementation of the program of Ukrainian-Chinese strategic cooperation in the field of aircraft engine building will strengthen the positions and influence of the Ukrainian aviation industry in the world market.

Jane report
A joint venture (JV) between Ukrainian aero-engine manufacturer Motor Sich and Beijing Skyrizon Aviation Industry Investment Co Ltd - China’s only private-sector aero-engine firm – is aiming to expand its profile in China through investment in an industrial facility in Chongqing, in the southwest of the country.

The state-run China Daily newspaper reported on 20 September that the two companies are essential investors in a new aero-propulsion industrial estate in the region, which is under development and is seeking total investment of approximately USD3 billion. To date, Motor Sich and Skyrizon are the facility’s main investors.

Wang Guangqiu, vice-president of Skyrizon’s research department, was quoted by China Daily as saying the two companies will initially jointly produce Ukrainian-designed engines at the new Chinese facility.

I'm sure you all remember this article about the J-20 back in March

Since we now know that the article is referring to the current WS-10X on prototype 2021, my question is what engine is he referring to when he says "We also have begun to design a next-generation aviation engine with a thrust-to-weight ratio that is much higher than that of current types". It seems unlikely it would be the WS-15 (which has undergone testing), so could the new engine be a successor class ...?
to me he likely meant WS-15. his words is "have begun to design", have begun means the design started some time ago, years or decades, it is an ongoing work. He might mean something newer after WS-15, but the wording does not exclude WS-15 either.

United Engine Corporation (Объединённая двигателестроительная корпорация) and Aero Engine Corporation of China just signed agreement to co-develop large bypass ratio turbofan engine on September 20th during the 2017 Beijing Aviation Expo.

So far there is nothing on either UEC or AECC's website. Here is the link to cjdby (access temporarily down right now)

I think the immediate application would be C929 considering C929 is the overall joint program. The article claimed the source to be UEC. It also stated that experience of PD-35 will be used in the joint effort.

OMG! I never thought the day would come when they release photos of the WS-10.
There's nothing wrong with some photos of WS-10 engine testing ... which we rarely see. I don't get your point here ... what are you trying to state

What stage of testing is the WS-15 currently in? There must be some rumors by "Big Shrimps" out by now ... and I'm sure the PLAAF doesn't want to have an under-powered J-20 even if it's a Taihang. When will it receive design certification? Thanks.
