The Ding porcelain firing technique, which had disappeared for 800 years, is now back in use. Ding porcelain is one of the pillar industries of Quyang county, Hebei province.
Ding Kiln, Ru kiln, Jun Kiln, Guan Kiln and Ge Kiln are renowned as the "Five Kilns" of the Song dynasty. The Ding Kiln began in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Song Dynasty and vanished in the Yuan Dynasty. Ding porcelain had the reputation of being "thin as paper, white as jade". Ding porcelain pieces have been collected in the world's most famous museums.

Research has been conducted on the Ding porcelain firing technique since the 1970s. After 30 years of unremitting effort and thousands of experiments, craftsmen have finally rediscovered the firing technique of Ding porcelain. In 2008, "Ding porcelain firing technique" was listed by China as an item of national intangible cultural heritage. The Ding Kiln has produced a set of Ding porcelain that have been sold in Canada, the UK, Japan and the US.

"Developing the firing technique was just a beginning," says artisan Chen Wenzeng. "Making the Ding porcelain culture well-known is the final goal." He has been teaching the Ding porcelain firing technique in an attempt to promote the development of the Ding porcelain industry.

The history of China's fashion modeling industry would not be complete without mentioning Chen Juanhong, who is seen as the first Chinese model to go global. Born in Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province, Chen is a basketball player-turned professional model. She rose to fame in 1991 when she was crowned at the 2nd China Super Model Contest. Authorities in Shenzhen, one of China's most industrialized cities, announced at 5:40pm on Monday that the city would put a cap on sales of new cars with residents only permitted to acquire a new vehicle either by lottery or auction.
Starting from 6 pm Monday, only 100,000 new car plates will be allocated per year, a number which includes 20,000 electric cars.

Upon hearing the sudden announcement, local residents made good use of the window of 20 minutes to rush to dealerships to buy a car.

A Chu tomb belonging to the Chinese Warring States Period (475-221 BC) has been unearthed at Xiajiatai cemetery in Jingzhou city of Central China's Hubei province on Dec 25, 2014.

The well-preserved coffin chamber is rectangle shaped and black in color.
More than 30 burial objects have been retrieved from the tomb, including a pair of wooden figurines, a leathered amour, and some dried fish.

These items turned out to be of great research value for Chinese archeology and the whole coffin will be transported to Jingzhou Museum for research and preservation, according to the archeologists.
So far, 385 tombs have been discovered at Xiajiatai cemetery, and more than 80 percent of them belong to the Warring States Period.

The public transport in Beijing begins to adopt new fares on Sunday, which double the current prices on average, but include some discount schemes.

According to the pricing adjustment plan, the minimum price for a subway ride will be 3 yuan, which covers a ride of 6 km, compared with the current flat-fare of 2 yuan with unlimited transfers. The subway fares will increase in accordance with the length of travels.

For bus passengers, a ride of 10 km will be 2 yuan and 1 yuan for every further 5 km. Smart card users will enjoy a 50 percent discount and student card users 75 percent discount.

Bus transport in the Chinese capital city is currently 1 yuan on most lines, with a smart card price of only 0.4 yuan. Some longer bus lines charge passengers according to the length of ride.

The number of passengers taking the subway hit 3.2 billion last year in Beijing, an increase of 350 percent from 2007. Subsidies jumped from 13.5 billion yuan in 2010 to 20 billion yuan in 2013.
Beijing's subways suspended service Saturday night to prepare for the public transit fare hikes.
Passengers were banned from entering subway stations at 9 pm Saturday, to give workers time to adjust the fare counting system.

Authorities increased bus transport to ensure the travel of passengers after the suspension of subways.
Meanwhile, 15,000 personnel were mobilized to upgrade the card sweeping machines on the city's 22,000 buses overnight after the end of their operation on Saturday.
