Hi everyone,

as per my other post, I'm trying to find out information on the Chinese forces in WWII (From 1931 to 1945). Specifically, I'm looking at tactical forces, at Battalion and Company levels, and there's not much written about them in english.

Can anyone shed light on common tactics?

What was the general structure of a battalion, a company, a platoon, a squad? What number of men and what equipment did they have? What differences are there between the elite foreign-trained divisions (like the 88th), the better-equipped central divisions and the provincial, warlord forces? What other organisations were there (like the Hui 36th division)?

What were the CCP troops commonly armed with, and what sized engagements did they fight as partisan forces?

Any help you can provide would be greatfully accepted.

Cheers!

There is a book of Mao Tse-tung On Guerrilla Warfare translated by Sameuel B. Griffith II. It has organization and force structure tables.

In the book The Battle for China which is a collection of essays it is mentioned that the Communist forces would try to limit the commitment and concentration of their forces from exceeding 2000 troops in an engagement or area of operation in order to preserve their forces being annihilated in one fell swoop and to not over tax the support of the local people.
