Am new to the forum and was hoping to get some information on the type of personal equipment carried by frontline Chinese infantry. I've noticed a shift to nylon type equipment including vest type equipment (probably with inserts for body armour) used by special forces. Any information or images would be useful:eek:

as 95 rifle is being issued to the frontline infantry, the new(not very new today) type 95 infantryman series vest is also being issued to the troop. it includes type 95 rifleman vest, 95 machine gunner vest, 95 sniper vest (for 88 sniper rifle), and 99 submachine gunner vest. even though rifleman and machine gunner vest are the most common ones.
other than that the troops using 81 rifle is still using old AK style chest 4 ammo punch. even though there are signs of 81 rifleman using 95 vest.

95 vest includes 4 front ammo punch which holds 4 30 mag for the gun; a S belt, which could hold on a canteen pack and a gas mask pack. additional packs could be added on, such as meal pack, stuff pack, shovel pack, first aid pack and so on. behind the 4 ammo punch at about where your arms are, it has 4 packs for grenade, with 2 on each side. it could hold both hand grenade or stick grenade.
type 95 series gear also has an infantry 24 hours backpack. which is a square pack you wear on the back, it could contain shovel, meals, and some bullets. a big pack is also issued to the troop, which could contain sleeping bags and other gears. the 95 infantry backpack could be mounted on the 01 sack too.
even though 95 was not a very good design (at least to me). "frills" are still being cutted down from it.
all is issued to the troop is the vest and the belt. gasmask pack and canteen are still being carried by the old way.

it's too late now, i will post on some photos of the 95 vest tomorrow morning.
in the mean while, if you are lucky, please have a good look on this boxart of dragon's 1/48 hangkong PLA drawing by a canadian drawer
