I don’t think it would be long before drones are deployed at the squad and tank level.

Imagine having drones as standard components of MBTs, and tank commanders could launch them with the press of a button and have live feed data linked to a console or HMS that he can then control with his joystick to do real time tactical recon in urban combat.

Tanks don’t need to worry about weight so much, so can carry bigger drones with more endurance and equipment. The drones should also be able to automatically land and re-dock with the tank when batteries are running low.

Maybe there will even be a new class of tank or IFV which will be a mini drone carrier, able to launch and recover multiple classes of drones from recon to armed and suicide attack. If it works, it could well be that such drone carriers supersede gun based traditional MBTs much like how carriers displayed battleships as the top dog.

On a separate note, does anyone know the lethal range of ERA? Those infantry soldiers feel a little too close to the tank to me, a hit that triggers the ERA might be a real threat to them.

drones can be fitted with anti mine sensors too thus ensuring the safety of tank. Not only ERA but the sharpnels from objects hitting the tank can be lethal too so proper distance is maintained while fighting.

Pretty sure QN-506 was experimented with carrying a drone for reconnaisance. Would be interesting to see that concept developed further
