A question recently came up during a discussion: can stowage baskets be used to store armor blocks as to increase side protection?

Up to a point, but the baskets are unlikely to have been designed to do that, so too much weight from armour blocks might break them.

But the sides already have ERA on the outside of the baskets, the gap between actually effectively creates spaced armour, and together with the turret armour, should give pretty good protection.

I think the main issue will be durability.

As was revealed during combat in Syria, ERA armour skirts have a habit of falling off after one hit, thereby leaving the tank vulnerable to follow on hits.

If you stuff the side baskets full of armour blocks, the chances of it all falling off after one hit would be significant increased.

All that extra armour would also weigh down the tank, not only reducing its speed and acceleration further, but potentially also messing with how well and fast the turret could traverse, which would be s massive problem.

TBH, I think it would be far better to jury-rig on active defence units rather than try and bolt more armour onto the 96.

The 96 is a medium tank, and no matter how much armour you could realistically add on, it's not going to be able to take a direct hit like s superheavy. Better to pursue systems which means it doesn't have to take the hit at all.

I thought the t-96 was up to the G standard

The G is Chinese for "Gai" or change. I think it is inofficial, the A however is the official suffix attached to the mod. Now there is this new version and people are calling it B. Dunno if it is official this time or not.

Following an embarrassing performance by team 107 yesterday (missed all three tank targets as well as the RPG target), team 103 made a comeback and beat the Russian team with a net time of around 20 minutes!

misses of the crew of no. '107' likely due to racing pressure if that's the case

Seems to be the case. Also keep in mind that the actual speed and maneuverability of the tank weighs more heavily than accuracy in this tournament. Maybe the Chinese team didn't place as much focus on accuracy this time.
