so, would the satellite be saved?

Not likely, if this satellite was meant for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) 200-1,200KM above earth then it can burn some of its own feul to get to position but it will shorten operating life.

However this satellite is mean to geostationary orbit (GEO), that is above 35,000KM to 45,000KM, no amount of possible fuel burn from the satellite itself is going to get that far.

China's Zhongxing-9A finally reaches intended orbit after partial launch failure

A Chinese telecommunications satellite launched last month has reached its target orbit after a series of orbital adjustments. Zhongxing-9A had been left in a much lower than intended orbit by a launch issue.

from Xichang, but an issue with the third stage of the Long March 3B left the satellite orbiting at 193 x 16,357 km and inclined by 25.7°

The satellite used its own propulsion to perform 10 orbit adjustments and Wednesday reached its intended orbit at 101.4 degrees east longitude over the equator at an altitude of 36,000 km.

The satellite's systems and transponders are now operational and Zhongxing-9A has entered a period of on-orbit testing.

An investigation found that the launch issue was caused by an anomaly with the rocket's rolling control thruster, part of the altitude control engine, during the third stage.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the main contractor for the space programme.

Shortened lifetime
The use of the satellite’s onboard thrusters, intended for station keeping, means the satellite will experience a greatly reduced operational lifetime. Thursday's announcement did not provide information on this.

An additional boost for British Skylon and Chinese spaceplane programs

Scientists from the UK and China have created a new ceramic coating that could be used to develop a hypersonic plane capable of flying between London and New York in two hours.

The new material is being described as potentially revolutionary in the aerospace industry, for its ability to resist temperatures of up to 3,000 C -- the level of heat generated by moving at five times the speed of sound.


Hypersonic travel is defined as moving at Mach five or more.

The scientists at the University of Manchester and Central South University in China who developed the material claim that the carbide coating is 12 times more effective than conventional ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) used on other hypersonic vehicles like rockets, re-entry spacecraft and defense projectiles.

"Future hypersonic aerospace vehicles offer the potential of a step jump in transit speeds. A hypersonic plane could fly from London to New York in just two hours and would revolutionize both commercial and commuter travel," said Philip Withers of the University of Manchester.

In addition to resisting both heat and oxidation, the coating was created using a process called reactive melt infiltration, which dramatically reduces the development process. The coating is also reinforced with carbon-carbon composite, making it extremely strong and resistant to regular surface degradation.
