Rather lengthy.

The US Navy has been patrolling the Pacific since the end of WWII and will continue to do so.

There is nothing "innocent" about sending war ships to an area with the express intent of either intimidation or intelligence gathering.

Yes, indeed, I'm very happy that you just wrote that Japan should take actions whenever some stray PLAN ship end's up in their territorial waters around Ryukyu Islands chain and sink it! Together with US Navy of course!

I'm very concerned that you just wrote that the action China should take whenever some stray Japan or US military ship ends up in China's territorial waters is to sink it.

I dare them to do what you just said and see what will happened. China doesn't shirk from confrontation when she was poor and she will not back down now for sure!

Talk is cheap do it if you dare!

Innocent passage is different from USN FONOPs as this article points out:

There is also significant announced divergence of interpretation by numerous countries even among signatories to UNCLOS as to what military activities are accepted under what conditions within which maritime zones.

It is encouraging to read China's White Paper: Beijing "seeks to reshape" Asia-Pacific security order (Singapore ST 12 January 2017). This Paper is timely in response to other hyped-up reports on security issues including our regional maritime FON. The 2 top priorities for China, the region and the World are focused on Economy & Security. President Xi will present his vision at Davos soon, the first by a Chinese President. We also wait to examine Trump's policies (geo-politics, economic and security etc.) after he is inaugurated as US President on 20 January 2017. The incoming Trump Administration will know that assertiveness will never work, especially when dealing with China. Hopefully there will be Peace and Progress in the Asia-Pacific, rather than hostilities in any form - "Jaw, Jaw NOT War, War".

I have listened his confirmation hearing, it seemed much more as confirmation of Secretary of Defence, not Secretary of State...

Tillerson made a belligerent remark even before he officially becomes Secretary of State. He is an oil man who lacks experience in diplomacy. Very disappointing "hawkish" stance that will invite serious problems/hostilities and repercussions. Trump must seriously consider the implications of Tillerson's view on the SCS very carefully.

It seems to me that Tillerson remarks are purely for domestic use ( saying what Comittee members want to hear to get the confirmation ).
