Yes, data show that to be the case. Also, economic investments by China might improve Pakistani development to where it shoot past India and view it in the rear view mirror.

Its was a long hard road which is being jointly achieving by hard work & dedication of a most terror affected nation (lost thousand of innocent lives) & brave/resilient armed forces who throw out terrorists from the mother land (hats off).

However, temporary gains from investment would falter unless sustained by enlightened policy makers and political leaders who manage the country for long-term prosperity. That's harder to achieve in democratic, multi-party nations than countries run by enlightened authoritarian leaders, like China.

This is most critical aspect, as our political regime is the most corruptest & can except anything from them to fulfill their dirty goals. Hopefully, we as a nation can overcome them as well with resilience like we did against terrorists.

The problem isn't democracy but corruption. Corruption is a problem in all countries but in some more than in others. After several centuries a free market economy becomes corrupt. See

Blackstone

Brigadier
Haha, is this the first time that I've read where Blackstone uses the phrase "enlightened authoritaian leaders" to describe the Communist Party of China? :D
No it isn't. I'm consistent on necessity of the CCP leading China in the short and medium-terms (25-50 years), because all of the real-world alternatives are worse than keeping CCP in place, and some of them can lead to chaos. I believe the CCP has the "mandate of heaven," for now. I'm hopeful the middle-class in China will grow to a large majority of the country and they will force the CCP to make democratic reforms in the long-term.

I don't expect China to look like the US, and given its history and culture, the American form of governance wouldn't work there. I do, on the other hand, expect some form of co-existence between strong authoritarian leadership, universal suffrage representative legislature, and a mostly independent judiciary. What would it look line? Something along the line of a gigantic Singapore, with Chinese characteristics. Oh wait! Singapore has Chinese characteristics.
