China's V/STOL studies, concepts & considerations

Obviously it will take a long time for a clean-sheet, new technology program such as this to come to fruition, but I think anyone expecting it to take as long as the V-22 did is in for a surprise. The tools are better, the materials are better, the ground has been broken, etc. etc.

The 20-ton MTOW version would be slightly smaller than the Osprey, while the 40-ton MTOW would obviously be somewhat larger.

The announcement will have been made after lots of predesigns have been made to identify problem areas and some of these can be pointed out even earlier: gear box design and fabrication, engines, vibration. So the sheet ( computer monitor ) will no have been clean at the decision time.

In this case it's based on a model.

No way that thing would be deployed in a permanent manor to naval shipping. The 4 wings and rotors would prevent lading on a elevator and you can't fold them.

You can land them on LHD for a quick refuel and supply and troop drop off perhaps?

That's about it. keeping them on a LHA or CV is not possible unless you build a mega sized. For a regional operation It's fine but you are not going to be operating amphibiously. of course being a tilt rotor it should have a good combat radius.
but all it could do is ferry with an LHD.
