Pretty much all the western defense technologies products rely on DSP/FPGA for their processing power. And there are alot of softwares tools allow to bring up the development platform quickly.
What about China? they should also leaning toward to this way.

They should Have their own version of DSP/FPGA because US might not allow comapnies to export those suffs in large quantity. STuffs 386, 486, and micontrollers can't do the jobs.
