Was surprised to see Bolivia at #3 position. I know they bought a small number of K8's and Z9's, but am not sure where the rest of the arms sale went.

Just wonder how Vietnam is also in the list but not Cambodia. What did Vietnam purchase from China? I thought both nations do not have good military relationship. China don't wish someday Vietnam will use those weapon to fight against them in South China Sea?

It appears china has relatively good relationships with vietnamese communist party and it's military, but is unpopular amongst younger Vietnamese nationalists outside the party and military.

Vietnamese nationalists and students often attempt to stage protests against perceived Chinese encroachments on Vietnamese territory, but most of the time these protests are quickly suppressed by Vietnamese government and police.

I think Vietnamese communist party looks to chinese communist party as the model of how to survive and flourish in a world that has overwhelmingly turned against communism, without digging itself deeper into holes like the communist parties in north Korea and Cuba. At the same time, china sees good relationships with the Vietnamese communist party and military as insurance against being encircled by the US on its southern border.

Well if that Turkish air defense systems deal with China HQ-9 (FD-2000) comes through next year, than that makes Turkey the #1 importer of Chinese military systems at $3.4 Billion.

according to sipri for the value of export the past 2 years.

2011 2012 Total
Bangladesh 161 301 461
Bolivia 21 21
Cambodia 15 15
Ecuador 22 22 44
Egypt 1 1
Ghana 56 56
Indonesia 10 19 29
Iran 62 44 106
Laos 15 15
Myanmar 329 216 545
Namibia 57 57
Pakistan 760 852 1612
Seychelles 5 5
Sierra Leone 2 2
Tanzania 67 51 118
Thailand 5 25 29
Venezuela 8 115 123
Zambia 51 51
Total 1506 1783 3289

It's a little different, but maybe that chart is for the contract signed and not delivery. But contract signed also doesn't make sense since Algeria deal would be higher.

What about the actual figure of money transactions after a sale went through?

That single deal alone will bump China up a few places in the ordered list of world's arm merchants.
