China won Turkey's missile defense competition

Breaking news China beat the like of combine Lockmart Raytheon and French Italian consortium EUROSAM , Rosoboronet and winning the Turkish air defense system T-Loramid competition. A big day for HQ 9 could be the single biggest export 3 Billion dollar . This should put an end to the constant questioning of Chinese military hardware quality or effectiveness. They compete against the best and won
My question is why China surrendered the crown jewel of their IADS to allmighty dollar

NATO allies’ bids, selects Chinese firm for air defense system tender

Ankara has granted a long-awaited tender for long-range missile and air defense systems to Chinese contenders, dismissing bids from major NATO allies as the United States, France and Italy.

With the decision, announced today following a meeting of the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries' executive council, which is headed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ankara has approved the lowest offer despite worries about the Chinese system’s ultimate compatibility with NATO-owned early warning assets.

CPMIEC (China Precision Machinery Export-Import Corp.) submitted an offer for its HQ-9 that included co-production solutions – which was requested by Turkish authorities – at a reported $3 billion.

The other bidders were the U.S. partnership of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, offering the Patriot air defense system; Russia’s Rosoboronexport, marketing the S-300; and the Italian-French consortium Eurosam, maker of the SAMP/T Aster 30.

Turkey presently has no long-range air-defense systems. The $4 billion program, dubbed the T-LORAMIDS, is being designed to counter both enemy missiles and aircraft.

..... To counter both enemy missiles and aircraft.

I hate when people don't finish the story. Turkey is building quite the military right now. Licensing of Korean tanks and sph. Taiwanese apc's European attack helicopters, American utility helicopters indigenous landing ships, Chinese air defense, American fighter jets German assault rifles.

Vow, this thread is re-activated after sleeping for exactly one year. Don't we have a rule not to post in threads which are older than six months?

This deserves its own thread. Of course, things still could unravel going forward. One would imagine a lot of pressure would be applied on Turkey from NATO.

But staying away from politics, I think this more than anything else really validates the advances made by China's defense industry. China would not get this contract unless it is technically up there with S-400 and PAC-3.

Before this, I think the biggest example of Chinese success in an international RFP is in Chile's MBT competition.

On top of this, I think this leads to other possible contracts like early warning radars and control centers.

I believe it was S-300 competing in this competition rather than S-400 (although S-300PMU2 is definitely not an easy foe).

Which Chilean competition was that? China managed to sell VT-1As to morocco, but I can't remember if that was an international RFP.

This is genuinely surprising development. I used to think that Turkey allowed China to enter the bid in order to bring down competition prices. I guess the combination of cheap cost, minimum strings, healthy dose of tech transfer, and pleasant experience with other Chinese purchases helped the deal.

Did Turkey qualify to receive subsidies if they purchased Patriots? Since many of the US's arms clients are said to receive subsidies courtesy of the US taxpayer.

The way the Middle East is Turkey needs to update it's forces to deal with the challenges in their neighborhood.
