China wants to buy Facebook?!

Statistic-ly speaking, if a restaurant simply wants to survive, it adapts the local people's tastes, despite what ever original-dish it comes from. - Chinese restaurant at brooklyn are just brooklyn taste restaurant, not Chinese restaurant...

Mentioning that, I would like to agree with airsuperiority, if SDF "gose big", mp.net kind of "adapted restaurant" is next stop. There is no way current forum rules can handle the millions of clicks and idiots the clicks brought over to "make a point".

SDF being a rather small circle, is a blessing to its own quality.

PS.: I guessing BP somewhat "spit" on facebook is based on exactly the reason I mentioned - fb just being a "gathering place for nothing-better-to-do-people", have "no point" at all, so why bother (joining)?

Red___Sword, excellent post!

You'd better believe it! Thank you..

We've (i.e. all the members) built this website to be a place for intelligent discussion primarily about Chinese military matters. This is a niche forum. Small attracting the cream of the crop of Chinese military aficionados!

Trolls, bigots, zealots and other sorted troublemakers will be sorted out and banned in short order. If you just want to post nonsense and hate there are many other forums where that is allowed. Not here.

It's just nonsense to me. No more no less. If others like it. So be. Not me ..not now or forever.. Facebook is for girls...no insult or disrespect intended.

Yes I do Facebook, but I don't Twitter. All these social network are nothing more than fancy emails, another MY SPACE falling out coming soon.

Why are you so negative? Greater publicity for sinodefence may also mean that we'll be able to educate more of those kids/bashers and help them become mature, responsible individuals.

Perhaps my friend, but it also will bring more of the anti-China trolls and bashers from all types to come along with it. Publicity is double edged sword. I like to think SDF as an elite forum where all the intellectual members gathers to share opinions and ideas, knowing that somewhere online the trolls are reading too, but couldn't comprehend enough cognitive thoughts to make their arguments relevant enough to join in.

The chinese version of facebook (i.e. renren) has helped me greatly in reconnecting with my elementary school friends (that's over 10yrs ago). IMO social networking sites like facebook (or any other equivalent) is useful in keeping track of your friends so that you can contact them whenever u want instead of having to dig through your basement trying to find that little phone book you kept years ago.

I think Gordan Chang wanted to kill Mark Zuckerberg's zeal of expanding into China. The PR nightmare that would result from China being part owner of Facebook would kill it. That story did come out on the Forth of July. Who knows Google could have paid Chang to plant that story. Google has charged Facebook with those type of tactics. Like they don't do it themselves against their competition? How embarrassing it would be if Facebook was a success in China. Not sure if it was linked on this forum or another but there was a story that while big internet companies like Twitter aren't making a profit, their Chinese counterparts are by a lot.

Wow how is that for a conspiracy theory... Is Gordon Chang still that influential? Wouldn't Google employ more than one journalists?

Well that was exactly what Google charged of Facebook. Accordingly to those at Google, Facebook got a few tech journalists to write negative stories about Google. So would it be surprising they use the same tactic or in fact charge Facebook with those tactics to lessen the effect when they do it? It does fit exactly with what they charged of Facebook but they got Chang with a grudge to do it for them.
